You guys are probably mixed up because you don't know the fine difference between a check/debit/credit card.

hahahahahahaha...okay, kid...i have almost $800 in my discover cashback account, and that's less than 10 months of purchases...at 1% (and only then if i spend more than $3000!), i must be freakin' scrooge mcduck and didn't know it

My company didn't even accept cash until about a year ago. It was strictly Credit/Debit only. And even now we try to deter people from paying their bills in cash. If you pay with a card it's free, if you pay cash it's a $6.99 "Cash Processing Fee".

well dj, I would use my credit card for your company ... if I really wanted its services. I wouldn't feel bad about your company losing 3% of your money for being dumbfucks.

I would have to agree, it's a pretty stupid policy. I have yet to find out the reasoning behind it.

The reasoning behind it is fraud protection. Protecting itself from employee theft. I assume your company deals with high dollar transactions.

Not even close. The average transaction is probably $40-$50. The real reason is that the company wants everyone to have a card on file so they can auto-bill it and have a "relative" guarantee that a customer will pay their bill every month.

Well I guess the trade-off of adding Cash customers that we would have otherwise not had as customers is worth the risk of them not paying their bills, plus the additional $7 in revenue they get from each of those customers a month.

since i directly lobby on this issue ill just throw in that unfortunately, it's not an issue that market forces will be able to overcome. all financial institutions would end up doing this eventually, the larger ones will just be able to delay it longer, but the loss in income from interchange fees will eventually cause them to reduce other account benefits to compensate. the smaller ones will be affected the most based entirely on scale of operations within the context of the same fee size change.

that said there is a legislative instrument in both the house and senate to delay this portion of the dodd frank act, if not outright remove it. removal is unlikely, but delay and study is a likely option. Dick Durbin left a bad taste in a lot of people's mouths, no homo

Someone tried to pay me with a check for our fantasy football entry fee.

I told him to fuck off and and auctioned off his players in a dispersal draft.
