"Breaking News: Campbell University is locked down as Harnett County authorities are in a standoff with a student in a residence on the Buies Creek campus."

Quote :
"Buies Creek, N.C. — Campbell University was locked down Wednesday afternoon during a standoff between Harnett County deputies and a student in a residence on the Buies Creek campus, authorities said.

Deputies were trying to serve papers on the unidentified student when he barricaded himself inside a private home on the Campbell campus, university spokesman Britt Davis said.

The Harnett County Sheriff's Office dispatched members of its SWAT team to Campbell.

University officials have asked that all students, faculty and staff remain inside classroom buildings or residence halls, but Davis said officials ordered the lockdown only as a precaution. They don't believe any other students are in immediate danger, he said.

Wow. I didn't give her enough credit. Apparently she is smart enough to realize she'd never get reelected.

Edit: Maybe the party leaders sat down with her and gave her an ultimatum.

"Police identify man found dead in attic

Police identify man found dead in attic

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - Two weeks after a man's body was found in the attic of a Virginia Beach home, police have confirmed it was that of the homeowner, Sean Hatfield.

Hatfield's wife Nikki had last heard from him New Year's Day via a text message. When she returned to their home in Landstown Meadows that night, her husband, his cell phone and a .22 caliber rifle were missing.

A massive search ensued for Hatfield to no avail. Then, on January 12, Nikki Hatfield called officers to report that blood was dripping down a wall of her garage, from the ceiling to the floor.

When detectives arrived, they searched the attic. One of the detectives noticed a piece of loose plywood and discovered Hatfield's body in a crawl space behind it.

Police confirm a weapon was found near the body, but did not say if it was the missing rifle.

Police say there are no signs of foul play.

Nikki told WAVY.com Sean struggled with depression and gambling, especially since learning that he would be laid off from his Naval jet electrician job later this year.

Hatfield's body was taken to the Navy's military forensic investigators to determine cause of death."

^I love that line. Our reactor can power precisely nothing, as it is not set up to deliver usable power...it's a research reactor. But, assuming you could somehow draw power from it, and at full power with a typical net efficiency of ~35%, it'd output around 350kWe. Your average coffee pot is around 200W, so it's probably more accurate to say that the PULSTAR could "power" all the homes in your neighborhood with a safe overhead for summer and winter peak usages.

Time for the yearly review of how to survive a hurricane! Thanks, news channels, because I always forget how to dodge a storm that's hundreds of miles away and has updated forecasts every thirty minutes.

Also, 4-8 storms. Nice precision there!

Another low quiet hurricane season on the horizon, good stuff.

For the record we're going on 2400 days without a category 3 or higher hurricane making landfall in the US. That is a historical streak.

Given that there are no active storms in the Atlantic currently, and that June 1st is the official start of hurricane season I think we can agree that statement will stand.

Unless you would like to make a monetary wager over it?

I just think it's bad practice/taste to extrapolate data when that's not the goal of your analysis. The goal is to show past trends (according to your link alone; maybe there's an article that goes with it that extends the analysis into the future, but I don't know that).

Why do I have an opinion on this? BECAUSE IT MATTERS, DAMMIT.

I think that chart was intended to show how relatively quiet the Atlantic basin has been of late. And given that the statement that a "cat 3 or higher storm won't hit the US by June 1st" has a 99.999% chance of being correct it seems like a fair statement to make (in the article clarification was given).
