The Pixies had 2 really solid albums
All of Grunge happened
System of a Down, Korn, Tool, Rage against the Machine, Modest Mouse, The Red Hot Chile Peppers, and THE WHITE STRIPES all started or where in their prime
and I come on here and see 311 and Third Eye Blind, really?.... really? you're letting me down 4/5/2011 8:50:12 PM |

^Fine I'll admit it you're right 311 and Third Eye Blind definitely contributed more to music in the 90's than all of grunge. And, fine I'll grant that I have different musical taste than some people so what about Dave Matthews Band and Hooty and the Blowfish, or Blues Traveler? Not really bands that I would listen to but they still seem to deserve some mention on this thread, but I guess its only been the first 2 pages so I'm overreacting, probably time to go another couple months without posting.

Flaming Lips had a pretty good run of albums in the 90s. Indie rock was at a high- Guided By Voices, Superchunk, Built to Spill, Archers of Loaf, and Pavement were all in their prime.
Fear of a Black Planet came out in '90. Pete Rock & CL Smooth, Outkast, 2Pac, Dre, Snoop. 2 Skinnee J's Supermercado?

90's rock is my favorite music by far, but switching gears a bit, 90s rap was pretty awesome too.
This is my favorite all-time rap album. To this day, I still listen to it regularly.
Rounding out my top 10
2. Dr Dre - The Chronic 3. Snoop Dogg - Doggystyle 4. Biggie- Ready to Die 5. Outkast - Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik 6. Nas - Illmatic 7. Jay-Z - Reasonable Doubt 8. 2Pac - All Eyez on Me 9. A Tribe Called Quest - The Low End Theory 10. Cypress Hill - Cypress Hill
Actually reading that list now, I can't claim that 2-10 are in order of my favorites. God, there was so much good shit I could easily list another few dozen albums that are just as high up in terms of being seminal. Shit, I don't even have The Roots, Beastie Boys, Gangstarr, Wu-tang and others on the list. 4/21/2011 11:33:33 AM |

A good point. It's not "cool" but I will admit to being a Dave fan, and they clearly did their best work in the 90's. (Crash being their best by far, early 1996 I think?). And re: Hootie, Cracked Rear View is a solid fucking album that still ends up in the CD player from time to time. Was it the best music to come out of the 90's? No, but it's good. Maybe even very good.
