I could NOT make it past the horrible space/cuddle scene between squal and what'sherface (rinoa... had to look it up)
FUCK.
....anyway...
FF3('merica)>FF7>FF2('merica)>FF9 ...after that... unfortunately I've fallen off... I played 10, but there were aspects I didn't enjoy ([i tend to be a completionist.] the cave where you had chances [without saving] to open all chests for 100% of treasures..) the bullshit.

I downloaded this for my PC a few weeks back. Got a perfect game going. I'm lvl 73 right after getting Cloud back from Mideel.
I did not know about the AMAZING farming place in Juno where you go down that one corridor (towards the underwater reactor) and hit the alarm then enemies attack. If you have Beta enemy skill early in the game then the 3 mobs that spawn are easy kills at low level and I was getting an entire level at a time when I first started farming there. 4/12/2011 11:31:13 AM |

I just turned in a set for Master Magic Materia (Green).
I'll tell you what, once you get Scimitar (for Cid) and Apocalypse (for Cloud), you should head to the Northern Cave and go to the area where the swamp is and fight the Magic Pots (after an Elixir each) and Movers.
Each mover gives 800 AP, and they ALWAYS come in threes. (That's 7200 AP total per fight). Each Magic Pot gives 1000 AP, and you fight either one or two of them (3000/6000 AP per fight).
Working on the Command and Summon Masters now.
So much money...so little to buy. 4/12/2011 6:50:51 PM |

My first FF game was FF5(!). I didn't even start the series until Final Fantasy Anthology came out. It would take me 5 years to beat FF5 (playing off and on throughout the years) and I never really got far enough into 6.
I eventually got FF7 and loved it and beat the DOG shit out of that game. I'm talking there isn't a single fucking thing that I didn't get in that game. Gold Chocobos, KOTR, everything. I think my game clock was nearly 100 hours.
I got FF8 the year it came out, thought it was dog shit (even though I eventually did beat it years later and appreciate it. it's definitely by far the easiest FF to beat and complete 100%).
I also got FF9 the year it came out and once again beat the dog shit out of it. While I enjoyed FF9, it didn't leave as big an impression on me as 7 did. I have only beat 7 and 9 once apiece (although I've tried to play 7 and 9 again, got all the way to the end in 7 but never finished the crater, and got to disc 3 on 9 but never went further because of lack of free time and school shit holding me up).
I eventually revisited FF6 probably a few years after FF9 came out. Keep in mind that, even though I owned it originally, I probably got no farther than a couple of hours in. I consider 6 to be my fifth FF game, considering I beat 7, 9, and a substantial part of 5 and 8 before giving it a serious go.
That being said, FF6 is FAR and away the best game in the series and in my opinion is one of the best games ever created. I've probably beaten it 5 times since. No other FF game comes even close to touching what this game offers. FF7 is still special to me and is the only one that comes close to the quality of 6, but every other game is leagues behind it. You've got a classic villain that does some truly fucked up shit. The most you ever get out of Sephiroth is that he kills Aeris, but aside from that he largely makes his presence unknown throughout most of the game. Whereas in 6, you have a guy that not only poisons a guys's family, laughs about it, and relinquishes any amount of fuck he ever gave, but he basically destroys the entire world as you know it which starts an awesome non-linear half of the game, something which many RPGs lack in my opinion (Chrono Trigger being an exception here). You've got a great cast of varied characters with personality that each have useful traits (okay, except for Umaro). While the storyline isn't the best shit you've ever seen, it was certainly enough to hold my interest. Combine that with some of the most amazing artwork on the SNES and one of the best soundtracks in gaming history and you've got yourself an amazing damn game.
I think the only fault that I can find with FF6 is that it is lacking somewhat in the difficulty department (except for one boss which shall not be named).

Did you also level Aeris to 99 before she died and get her final limit break?

I played FF 6-10 and Tactics. I hated 10, 8 was okay (the space scene had me rolling but I was digging certain parts like at the end of disk one where everyone is trying to assassinate the queen).
VII is far and away my favorite. It came out at the perfect time in my life and I played that game to death. 4/14/2011 12:46:24 PM |

i remember the first time i played FF7. i borrowed the game from dyne and i was fighting against Sephiroth Angel and was like level 50. i didnt have KOTR, didn't have Bahamut Zero, didn't have the Ultima Weapon. And I kept dying. I think the best move I had was that "Beta" enemy skill haha. 4/18/2011 3:00:08 PM |

Be willing to bet they're going to aim for a 2017 release. It'd be 20 years since the original by then. 6/16/2015 10:33:17 AM |

Does this remake literally have the same game play? The thought is similar to Diablo 3. Yea, Diablo is great and we all swoon over the first time playing those games, but have video games evolved to a point where old style game play seems vanilla?
I would also imagine it hard to accept for some fans if the base combat wasn't very similar. 6/16/2015 10:35:57 AM |

this is awesome. Square has always said that they didn't want to remake VII until they had another FF get the same level of acclaim/sales. Guess Square is finally on its last leg.
How badass would it be if they made it a super detailed more free roam type of game, possibly with a slightly more active combat system? 6/16/2015 10:43:31 AM |

I'm taking a "wait and see" attitude about the 360 backwards compatibility thing. There's bound to be some big title they either can't get working or the publisher refuses to authorize.
So pumped for the Final Fantasy VII though. 6/16/2015 11:31:38 AM |

Good point.
In my head I immediately jumped to: identical mechanics from the original, with modernized graphics and audio.
.......what if they DO change it?
Micro-managing materia was one of the funnest aspects to me. Random encounters are what MAKE an FF game.

there's nothing that needs to be changed from the core game except graphics and UI obviously. I just really hope they don't fuck with the core mechanics of the game or add some useless social media integration just to please the current generation of gamers. 6/16/2015 2:09:57 PM |
