Newest update says credit info was encrypted and shouldn't have been compromised, but they admit there's a chance.

stuff reported to be compromised

name, address (city, state, zip), country, email address, birthdate, PlayStation Network/Qriocity handle/password/security answers, purchase history and billing address (city, state, zip).
credit card data

seems like most of this stuff would be available to anyone these days already (well except the pw of course)

hmm, my PSN email/password was the same as my gmail address/password.

Gmail locked my account due to suspicious activity, and when I recovered it, saw the following was sent to everyone in my address book:
Quote :
"
link removed"

no idea what it is, and no way in hell am I clicking on that.

Looks like Gmail was able to detect that as suspicious, and sending of the email was blocked, which is good. I don't know if this is a coincidence or not, but i went ahead and changed all of my passwords for any site that used my gmail account as a login.

this was the last straw for me to enable two-step verification on my gmail account.

i _really_ hope they didn't have the passwords stored in the clear though. i mean they still need to tell us if the encrypted versions got taken. but still.

Be that as it may, I think I'll stick to using points cards for PSN/XBLA from here on out.

i, too, had the same email/pwd for psn as my primary email.

i, too, spam botted the hell out of my address book last weekend.

hadn't put the two together. ungh. the bot that sent out the links to everyone also deleted all my sent mail for hte last four months, and tried to immediately delete the incoming failed delivery mails to addresses that are no longer valid.

when my phone went ape shit i logged in, and changed the pwd, it stopped.

Regarding the credit card info you guys need to relax. Even if something bad goes down your bank/credit card company will back you up and go after whoever used it illegally. A lot of these responses in this thread make it sound like people think they'd be held liable for unauthorized charges.

The day I hook my PS3 up is the day the stupid PSN goes down. I had the time to update my firmware to the latest and send a buddy request to 2 friends before it got kicked...... Come on sony. At least feed us some more information about what happened. And get busy restoring pieces of the system. If you can't bring up multiplayer at least get us messages or something.

"During a press conference tonight in Tokyo, Sony detailed what it will reward PlayStation Network users when the service is turned back on next week after being shut down due to an illegal intrusion.

The company announced its "Welcome Back" program worldwide, giving all existing PlayStation Network users 30 days of PlayStation Plus for free. Current PlayStation Plus members will receive 30 days of additional service at no cost. Sony will also provide "selected PlayStation entertainment content" for free to download. Details for each region will be announced at a later date. Additionally, Music Unlimited subscribers (in countries where the service is available) will receive 30 days free service.

"This criminal act against our network had a significant impact not only on our consumers, but our entire industry," said Kazuo Hirai, Executive Deputy President, Sony Corporation. "These illegal attacks obviously highlight the widespread problem with cyber-security. We take the security of our consumers' information very seriously and are committed to helping our consumers protect their personal data. In addition, the organization has worked around the clock to bring these services back online, and are doing so only after we had verified increased levels of security across our networks.

- Associated PressSony's Kaz Hirai addresses the media in Tokyo."Our global audience of PlayStation Network and Qriocity consumers was disrupted. We have learned lessons along the way about the valued relationship with our consumers, and to that end, we will be launching a customer appreciation program for registered consumers as a way of expressing our gratitude for their loyalty during this network downtime, as we work even harder to restore and regain their trust in us and our services."

Sony also said it is working with the FBI criminal investigation to track down who hacked PlayStation Network. The company reaffirmed it does not believe credit card information was taken, but says customers should keep an eye on their bank statements as a precaution. Of the 77 million registered PSN accounts, roughly 10 million have active credit cards tied to them.

When PlayStation Network goes live next week, users must download a new system firmware update and will force users to create a new login password. Sony will also do a phased rollout by region for PSN services. Next week's initial rollout includes:- Restoration of Online game-play across the PlayStation 3 and PSP systems. This includes titles requiring online verification and downloaded games

- Access to Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity for PS3/PSP for existing subscribers. Sony will have a phased rollout by region for PlayStation Network next week. The services that will be available include:

- Access to account management and password reset

- Access to download un-expired Movie Rentals on PS3, PSP and MediaGo

- PlayStation Home

- Friends List

- Chat Functionality

One of the major services that won't be available initially is the PlayStation Store. Sony did not give a timeframe for when it wil be back up, but the company stated that all PlayStation Network services will operational by the end of May.

BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE!

http://www.joystiq.com/2011/05/02/sony-hit-with-second-attack-loses-12-700-credit-card-nu/

Quote :
"Sony Online loses 12,700 credit card account numbers, 24.6 million accounts compromised [update]

by Ben Gilbert on May 2nd 2011 5:45PM
193
Following up on this morning's news that Sony Online Entertainment servers were offline across the board, SOE announced that it has lost 12,700 customer credit card numbers as the result of an attack, and roughly 24.6 million accounts may have been breached.

The company took SOE servers offline after learning of the attack last evening, and today detailed the unfortunate results: "approximately 12,700 non-US credit or debit card numbers and expiration dates (but not credit card security codes), and about 10,700 direct debit records of certain customers in Austria, Germany, the Netherlands, and Spain" were lost, apparently from "an outdated database from 2007." Of the 12,700 total, 4,300 are alleged to be from Japan, while the remainder come from the aforementioned four European countries.

Furthermore, Sony ties today's announcement directly to the recent attacks on PlayStation Network and Qriocity, and says SOE customer information was stolen on either April 16 or April 17. Sony has repeatedly stated that its PSN servers and SOE servers are not part of the same network, so it remains unclear just how these two attacks are tied together. Head past the break for the full statement from Sony.

Update, 9:03PM EST: SOE has provided us with the following statement, in which it confirms that its user data was stolen as part of the original intrusion -- not a second attack. "While the two systems are distinct and operated separately, given that they are both under the SONY umbrella, there is some degree of architecture that overlaps. The intrusions were similar in nature. This is NOT a second attack; new information has been discovered as part of our ongoing investigation of the external intrusion in April.""

Ya, I was just coming to post about the latest attack.

Quote :
"Sony executives said its online services have been under cyberattack for the past six weeks and they weren't sure what its attackers were seeking. The company is working with the Federal Bureau of Investigation to probe the attacks."

Is no one claiming responsibility for this? It seems like the sort of grand scale scheme that would make bragging too tempting.
