I'm thinking about buying a pair of these for my trip to Nicaragua, since I'll be hiking through rainforests in 80-90 degree heat and don't want to haul around my boots. I doubt I will be running in them, but they look fun for hot-weather hiking and bouldering.

Does that make me a nerd?

They're not good for bouldering, compared to regular climbing shoes, unless you're just messing around.

"Bouldering" was not the appropriate term. I go on steep, rocky hikes where these things could probably provide more agility than my hiking boots. But I'm not that much of a climber to get my own climbing shoes.

I love shoes, comfortable shoes, and ugly shoes so this lets me know I will own a pair in the near future. I just have never justified paying the price tag for them.

I think quagmire02 and omgyouresexy were the first people I noticed with them. This woman in starbucks the other day had a dainty women's pair on that I would like to have. Dainty feet looking shoes.

i've seen some places try to market those shoes as being good for bouldering but that's really a load of crap. people look really foolish trying to climb in those. almost as foolish as they do when they wear them out downtown the next night.

^you look cute in everything. that's why everyone hates you!

I always get a good snicker when I see these being worn in the weight room. Please drop a dumbbell on your queer shoes.

are the tops of those leather? for warm weather hiking you can just wear running shoes. I used running shoes on my AT section. they dry out faster than leather and you probably already have a pair so you can save some money. better for climbing too cause of the stiffer bottom

Try the treksport instead. Same sole, synthetic, quick drying upper.

i recommend Merrell ventilators for Nicaragua. although, once you see the excuses for trails there you will probably want your regular boots for some ankle support.

how wide are these shoes, guys?

Fumbler has a very wide forefoot, very thick midfoot, & kinda skinny heel & they fit him well. I wear women's shoes so I can't help you out there.

Check out the merrell trail glove also. Not quiet a barefoot feel, but definitely minimalist & has plenty of width in the forefoot for your foot to spread naturally when you step.

^^Can you bench 2 times your body weight?

To answer your question not quite. I can do like 1.6 yo 1.7 times it. Squatting is bad on the knees, just like those gay shoes.

I don't own any Vibrams and don't plan to, but i also don't care what shoes other people wear when lifting. Out of all the annoying things people can do at a public gym, I think the type of shoe they wear would be way towards the bottom. /shrug

naw those shoes are usually accompanied by strong aftershave smells and a refusal to wipe off equipment after use.

anyone who has done any hiking at all will tell you that this is a terrible plan

i go through at least couple pairs of ventilators a year, i love them. they also made a mid for more ankle support but its never been an issue for me.

The advantage I see with wearing these to the gym when lifting is that as you workout your feet will likely sweat as well or at the very least moisture from your leg will find its way into your shoes. With these you can simply toss them in with your regular wash unlike old fashion sneakers. You can contend that's what socks are for, but everyone knows that after a time even athletic sneakers start smelling pretty rough if used consistently.

I have had a pair for about 3 years now.
I wore them around sidney australia while just walking. I probably covered 15+ miles on concrete and didn't have any problems with them.
I don't run in them, or hike for that matter. I just think they are great shoes.

I've wanted a pair since Joe#s was first talking about them. Those things are expensive. I will have a pair prob when no one cares about them anymore.

[Edited on June 23, 2011 at 11:05 PM. Reason : I alread talked about these in this thread. I WANT THEM.]

My friends got a pair recently for $10 a piece at a Dick's sidewalk sale.
