I mean Facebook ruins normalcy in life. There is no reason I should be so lazy so as to not call someone on their birthday instead of posting the stock, "Happy Birthday X" on the FB wall.

And I absolutely refuse to be friends with someone I'm like casually dating (like before official or whatever) on FB. It just creates another useless medium for quasi-communication.

And yes, I'm old and should be yelling "GET OFF MY LAWN" right now.

It's like an instant reference check...if I'm on the fence about adding the person I will definitely make the decision based on those mutual friends

the exceptions include people like photographers or friends of friends (usually they send a message first claiming we've never met)

i have NOT met all of the friends on my list.

if i HAD to guess...i'd say i've met 75%
15% i know but never met (think t dub, or tumblr, or something similar)
10ish are people who i havent met and/or am i'm not sure who they are....usually these people get weeded out every so often, but occasionally some stick around because they're interesting or funny

I met Joie only two or three times, I think

I remember the first time, I thoroughly embarrassed myself by making fun of her, and then dragging her under water in our hot tub. Then I creepily said "you can use the shower if you want to rinse off". It was me being completely honest/nice though. I'm still kicking myself over that one.
I just keep replaying it over and over in my mind... I imagine myself having a deep, scathing, creepy voice.... you can get in my shower if you want.....

My way of trimming down on my friends list is if I see their birthday and don't immediately know who they are, they get removed.
Unfortunately, this isn't very effective.
