the problem is the vast majority of the world had/has/will have bad math teachers starting from elementary. (if you are doing 'foil', you had a sucky teacher) that screws them up and by the time they reach HS or college, they hate it and suck at it.

anyway, the main question is, does the alligator take off from the hyperbola or not?

Weird, those are the only two math subjects I excelled at as well. I remember making barely Bs in high school math and then making top scores in geometry and statistics. I wonder if there's something about those two topics that click more easily in people that tend to do better in language arts.
