I'd love to see Daniel Day Lewis as Randall Flagg

the dude who played Sawyer as Stu?

The other guy that jumped out was viggo mortensen, but he was pretty much born to be Roland Deschain some day. They shouldn't even make a dark tower movie if they can't get him to play roland.

They're getting Javier Bardem to play Roland, from what I've read. I'm pretty comfortable with that choice as he kicked ass in No Country for Old Men

I'm okay with Javier Bardem as well. Might have preferred Mortensen but I think Bardem will do well in the role.

Someone mentioned Robert Downey Jr. as a Stu candidate--I actually wonder if he might not work as Flagg. Doesn't really have the "creepy charm" but I actually think he could be a good fit as long as people can forget his Iron Man persona.

Yeah if they ever DID do a Stand movie they'd have to go with whoever plays Flagg in the Dark Tower...or vice versa if The Stand comes out first

I haven't seen Javier Bardem in anything other than No Country for Old men, so I can't picture him as anything but Anton Chigurh.

i dunno, it could work.

I'm on the last book in The Dark Tower series, and while it is still an awesome book, I kinda feel like its an advertisement for King's other works. And it works. I now plan on reading The Stand again, as well as Hearts in Atlantis to hear more about Ted Brautigan. Will probably also read 'Salam's Lot since I've only seen the movie, and that was like 15 years ago.

but

Hearts in Atlantis is 'ok'.

you should absolutely read Black House
Insomnia was great too.

But Black House is all kinds of connected with TDK

Don't read Black House without reading The Talisman. Not necessarily essential, but important.

I'm reading the unabridged version, and watching the miniseries on Netflix. I must say, the miniseries is pretty hard to watch due to the 90's corny

I took 4 English Lit classes at State, and every professor hated Stephen King. Fuck them.

^^Well, they were lit professors. You have no idea how pressured lit students and professors are to stick to canon.

Stephen King has commercial offerings and has more than a few bad books, but that doesn't make him "non-literary". He has plenty of material more than worth being called literary works.

Think I read somwhere recently that most recent Harry Potter director may be signing on to this project, and that it will be a trilogy

Looks like their going ahead with this in a trilogy format.

Director so far is rumored to be the guy from the last couple Harry Potter movies, and he may bring a couple of writers from that staff.

Not being a huge Harry Potter fan I'm not sure what I think about that.

Yeah I think so, but I think each episode would only be like 1 1/2 hrs (commercials and shit). With the way films are nowadays we're looking at at least a 2 hour movie per installment.

The books had some issues, but overall they were pretty good. Wizard and Glass especially. I didn't like it when he involved himself. That was just strange IMHO.

man, hate that its probably going to have a 36 month gap between parts 1 and 4, but really hoping they do this right. I don't know why I am so hooked on King's stuff. The characters and minutia of the books are really addictive and hook me every time, but I always know the endings are going to fall short of what I want them to be.

Still pumped though!

huh that's an odd way to phrase it... i wonder if the "almost" means that the character was referenced but didn't appear in one of his novels?

That seems a bit low since im pretty sure he is 'referenced' or appears in all 7 dark tower novels.

well, hearts of atlantis (and the most recent dark tower book) his character appears but it's not explicitly stated that he is in fact Randall Flagg.

wikipedia says at least 9.

and originally, the character walter in the gunslinger was a separate character, but stephen king ret-conned him into being the same character under a different name.

One can also notice that, even when not named Randall Flagg, in the King universe the character most representing evil (not necessarily the primary antagonist) usually has the initials R. F.

If i remember correctly, Mother Abigail's father had the initials "R.F" I can't remember the first name but last name was obviously Freemantle. I remember reading it if Stephen King had meant to use those initials and if it meant anything, or if it was just coincidence. (I think it was just coincidence)

[Edited on December 9, 2014 at 11:46 AM. Reason : looked it up. was the mother. Rebecca Freemantle]
