chigger immatures need a meal before they pupate. So they bite you and feed by inserting a temporary detachable mouth sheath. When they finish feeding they leave the detachable sheath in your skin and drop to the ground and pupate and wait to become adults. Therefore you do not have anything living inside you, rather remnants of the chigger which causes skin irritation. The nail polish myth kind of works because it keeps you from scratching it and kind of reduces the itch as well.

icing your bites probably works the best

This stuff immediately numbs the itch and then provides relief for a few hours for me. It's relatively expensive ($5-7 for a few ounces) and it's mostly calamine so you have to deal with the pink flaky mess but it beats the hell out of unbearable itchiness IMO.

I get wrapped up with chiggers when I go out in the woods, but ticks won't bite me. They'll crawl around on me, hop off of me in the truck, and then bite whoever rides along with me next.

I'm pretty sure those are actually chiggers being described in that article. Chiggers are mites, not ticks

i have gotten seed ticks on my legs while walking in to go hunting before and they resemble the bites begonias has. chigger bites are usually more localized in clusters, and a harsher shade of red......

that article is in fact about seed ticks, and you are right chiggers are mites, but the article is pretty accurate in describing what a seed tick is.
