and that's fine. but if the policy is free speech then don't silence the bad person when people are piling it on.

that's the double standard, friends vs outsiders thing people are talking about

[Edited on June 10, 2011 at 9:23 AM. Reason : another reason is so I can embed the benny hill music on autoplay in a thread every now and again]

but should it be? my only complaint is that there is a trend towards online interactions carrying the same weight as IRL. look at facebook, that shit is now used as evidence in court. the "charm" of the web was you could be whoever you want whenever you want with whatever backstory you wanted. roleplaying a persona that has nothing to do with who you really are will always still reveal some part of your true self but the same can be said about abstract painting. i caution against truly being yourself online because the risks (to me) far outweigh the benefits.

so to all the trolls: keep fighting the good fight. you provide far more entertainment than people give you credit for. its a thankless job most of the time but a creative troll is far more entertaining than a truthful person.

p.s. - vote Palin in 2012

Yes, people who try to draw a line between internet interaction non-internet interaction are pussies or time travelers from 1994.

^5 See that right there, I have never understood.

Maybe you can help me understand it better, but what is the point of being anything other than yourself? Does it make you feel better about yourself to be able to have the ability to be an ass and then fall back on "it's the internet, don't be so serious?" I honestly want to know.

I'm nothing other than myself on here or anywhere else. I don't feel a need to hide behind perceived internet anonymity with a persona or alias or whatever to get a point across. I do not understand those that do. If someone wants to be a jerk to someone else, they should have the balls to do it directly. Anything other than that is just a pussyfied way to behave.

Not saying that you personally have done that, I have no idea, it's just my opinion.

can you put the 5 rules in bullet format and each rule in it's own separate line item? Also, needs a tps cover sheet.

Troop,

trolling, roleplaying, and anonymous posting are three entirely different things.

trolling is saying something to get a reaction (whether you believe it or not) or to divert the conversation. theres a science and art to doing it well. i am not putting those who make blanket racist, sexist, or generally offensive statements up on a pedestal because that is the lowest form of trolling. anybody could do that.

roleplaying is when a person uses another persona other than their own for interaction. its too broad of a category to put into a few sentences but it has no real life "goal" usually other than amusement of the roleplayer.

anonymous posting to me just means "i could be truthful or i could be full of shit, either way you probably shouldn't waste your time trying to figure it out"

playing mr. tuff guy on the internet could possibly fall under none, one, or a combination of all three of these but my main point was you(the reader) doesn't know which. they could just be trolling, they could just want to act tuff on the internet because they are a pussy irl, or they could just feel like they can say whatever they want because the consequences are slim to none.

^Site3is an upcoming Sci-Fi Drama that was picked up by ABC last fall. qntmfred is actually producing it, but he also cameos as a secondary character, while punchmonk takes the lead female role (living alongside many rumors that she was selected only because of her connection to the producer). The plot of Site3 is basically that a classified branch of the government has multiple secret research sites scattered around the world, all of which are responsible for numerous discoveries in the modern world, from medicine to weapons to production to agriculture. One Site in particular, Site3, has produced the most financially successful and globally important products in the 100 years it's been operational. The show centers on Site3 during a period of turmoil following the release of its latest globally-reaching research project that ends up flopping and turning into a world-wide biomedical catastrophe.

I give it half a season.
