I don't really see any of the favoritism in the mod circle. I don't know most of the mods (I know two pretty to very well when I was made a mod) at all and I had never met Ken. I don't think there is any sense of "having each others backs" when issues arise.

And to point out the lack of favoritism I, along with most mods, have read personal insult after personal insult thrown at us and still don't treat those people any different from a few friends I've known for 10+ years.

It's a case of perception clouding reality.

The first night I posted here I remember gunzz made a thread about me. So I posted the youtube clip of David Caruso saying F%^& you in Session 9. If you don't have somewhat thick skin it's difficult to post in a message board.

To be fair, post-qntm moderation is much different than pre-qntm moderation. I'm a pretty big dick to a lot of the mods (carzin, gunzz, synapse, omar) and other than gunzz tuff guy threatening me dozens of times, nothing ever comes of it. Beardawg, however, suspended me for like two weeks for calling him goofy-looking.

in general i think moderation is fine. i think that there are definitely double standards, but for the most part it is a good balance. where i think they are lacking is when it comes to new users, new users need a little more protection.

back in the day everyone used this sites to post their party pictures. it was the place to go to post all of your drunk pictures. facebook has replaced this, and so now there is little incentive to stick it out. creating an incentive to encourage people to stick it out is important, thats why i think a functioning book exchange and school tool is so critical.

well the site needs an inflow of new users to stay alive. right now you are right, but if there were a reason this site was relevant new users may be attracted to it. one idea is to have a place for students to easily and cheaply buy and trade books. maybe some other people have other ideas.

i think a smartphone app is a good idea, or at least tweaking the site so it doesn't look like shit on WP7

actually apps area great marketing idea, pitch it as a book exchange app and market it to ncsu students. there is a lot of development time/cost with something like that though. getting the book exchange working here might be a better start.

i had problems with google home and a couple others with chrome because it had changed the zoom level with my knowing, make sure that its at 100%.

uh yeah i have to agree with rbrthwrd here.

plus i think my point was missed - back when tww was first created we didn't really have anything else that connected us to others at this level. but with the additions of facebook, twitter, other social media sites, etc, the fact that tww still manages to get ANY activity is kind of a big deal.

and now tww can walk around saying, you know i'm kind of a big deal around here.

not entirely - there's a TON of new people that have come on here in the last few years that are active posters. the problem is that there's SO many users and since there are still a lot of older, active users, it's hard to divide all of that up.

maybe if you ask Ken nicely and stop trying to be an instigator*, he can give you the metrics on the number of people who have registered for the site every year since it was created. it's an easy metric to run since it's tracked in all of our profiles.

I really don't understand how you can't see a distinction here.

The thread that was deleted (which was NOT requested to be deleted by any party involved -- I can't make that more clear) was a thread that was not instigated/started/bumped by any of the people involved at all. It was not a matter of someone BRINGING their drama to TWW. It was a matter of nosy people trying to start drama for no reason but trying to sling mud at other people.

The thumper thread was dormant. Dead. Not being thought of. Until SHE bumped it. Sure people like samwise and divababy could have let her off lighter, but that's not how things work on here. Plus the fact that she was just generally an unlikable and argumentative person on here in the past.

I mean you have to be a serious moron to not be able to see a difference here. Or just trying to be argumentative for the sake of it.

(for instance - and this is just my opinion - if elesuis requested the thread to be locked/deleted, it probably would have been because he did nothing to perpetuate this drama/reaction)

And it's absolutely insane for anyone to say that they think Ken is a bad person. I mean that alone should really invalidate anything else they have to say. I couldn't even imagine dealing with the stupidity that he has to deal with on a daily basis. I've only met him once briefly, but the guy must be a saint.
