Patriotism is just a sign that you've never really experienced other cultures not that there is anything wrong with ours it just seems that patriotic people TEND to belittle other countries of which they have never been to / don't don't possess a comprehensive and factual understanding

and just what other cultures have you experienced?

I think your statement is bullshit. Experiencing other countries, and developing an understanding for said countries, can often lead one to discover their own patriotism.

I think true patriotism is, at its core, a love for your country, pride in what it stands for, and a personal stake in the direction of which its heading. It doesn't mean republican or democrat, pro-war or anti-war, and it certainly doesn't make you a fascist/nationalist.

I don't think there's anything wrong with it. If anything, I find it somewhat troubling that it's so often discouraged and mocked by cynics.

I've been to mexico (not the tourist locations), bolivia, trinidad & tobago, and paraguay. I don't hate america or anything but everytime I go somewhere poor I kind of want to leave america. I'm seriously considering moving to norway or holland when I graduate. Obbviously id have to visit first which is currently part of the plan. Outside of my small group of friends and the relatively small town I grew up in I don't enjoy the political positions and mindsets of my fellow people. At least in those two countries the govt is a little more progressive on the things that I support.

That's just it... I don't support our govt. The things that I want my tax money to be spent on probably won't be in place by the time my children that I will have with a wife I haven't met are adults. I was raised basically as a quaker. I don't support war, I want green energy, I don't really think democracy works. If you look at history since the dawn of time humans have basically been ruled by a small percentage of the population without the general publics direct input (you could argue its like that here). Basically out of like 197 countries I think 22 are democracys the oldest of which being ours, a country which is relative to other countries an infant. Everytime I sit in public and watch people I get sick looking at their sense of entitlement, lack of desire to contribute to society, and even sicker when I think that these people vote and feel strongly about things that they don't have solid information about (a big one being nuclear energy) I know its not green but its cleaner than anything else. I'm on my phone so fuck typing anymore.

The recently disbanded (or is it) birther movement.

Cutting taxes for the wealthy (creates JOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOBS! RAWR!)

Getting rid of all the programs that help the poor (those lazy bums need to get off their asses and work....at Kmart!)

Getting rid of Social Security and all related programs (those lazy bums, you should of saved up for your own retirement, the feds should not support you!)

Unions (the mandatory dues are used for things the members do not want...ie elect Democrats)

According to the Flag Code, you're not supposed to wear the Flag: http://www.usflag.org/uscode36.html

living in Alabama is truly making me hate the Republican party, and I'm a registered Republican

the extremist views this governor is pushing on people is fucking ridiculous... he's trying to get a bill passed that would charge any woman who seemed* to try to make herself miscarry with homicide

* please stop and think about how hard this would be to prove and how many natural or unintentional causes could make it look not like an accident
