Ever think about working some hours for free at a non-profit or some small business?

Its a great way get applicable experience and within a year, I bet you could leverage that to find a decent full time gig.

I know a lot of people who have gone this route for getting their foot in the door and pushing them to the top of the resume stack.

It isn't a clear job description because you don't understand what System Admins do.

Honestly, that is VERY straight forward and simple. If you can't grasp this basic skillset, I'd say you're barking up the wrong tree. I know I'm not going to apply to be a doctor at a hospital because I took an anatomy class during college. You shouldn't do this for IT work either.
