i think Neptunes may have finally lost me for the weekends.

last night was overrun with the guido glenwood southers for a good portion of the evening. as it got closer to 1 am, those tards slowly filtered out. this is 2 or 3 weeks in a row.

it, like The Hive, is going to be unworthy of going to soon. slim's is the last refuge.

some of you have your heads so far up your skinnies that you can't possibly realize just how completely elitist and bitchy you come across.

as a person who enjoys a lot of the same proclivities and music as a lot of you, I'm actually embarrassed.

"whhaaaaa that people who take too long to get dressed are coming to my barz"

Get

the fuck

over yourselves.

go to the bars you enjoy. if you can't get past the idea that people who aren't like you are going there too, it speaks to nothing more than a personal issue that you ought have resolved in your early 20s.

people i don't like are everywhere, true. i frequently come in contact with them. i realize they're at every bar.

but when people i don't like congregate somewhere and change the whole vibe of a place why am i not allowed to express my disappointment?

sometimes i like to hang out at places for the scene/vibe/mood/ambiance/whatever and if it changes from cool and fun and friendly to obnoxious and douchebaggy and irritating then i might express my disappointment. like hey that is a place i used to like to go, but now assholes have made it all assholey so i don't like it anymore.

sorry for having opinions and preferences about who i want to be in close smelly quarters with

anyways that is exactly what people are talking about: going to places they enjoy. some people are just sad that a place they used to enjoy is not such anymore. its all pretty normal, really. and shouldn't be that shocking or offensive.

^^^some good points. but seriously, have a good time where you are. if douchebags are changing the vibe of your favorite bar, talk to the manager. if said douchebags still come to the place you like, could it possibly say there's a merging of tastes? Don't be so quick to be embarrassed about sharing the same space as a guy who gels his hair. he's more than likely just as uncomfortable with himself as the rest of you are.

^^I didn't miss the point. I know what you all want to say. I also know how "you people" react the second you see a dude wearing a chotchy ass shirt. yes, Affliction is probably the worst possible style one could don, along with Ed Hardy, but fuck man, wouldn't it be easier to just assume they probably don't know any better, or, just don't give a fuck?

I'm fortunate to have the gift of gab. I'll talk to anyone. Anytime. I don't care what the fuck you look like, or how loud you got when GnR came on the loudspeakers.

I don't mean to generalize, but mostly, you kids perpetuate the same divisive cultures that the douchebags do. And it's probably more damning, because (this IS generalizing) I'd venture a guess that most of "you people" are more intelligent, and more socially aware than said douchebags.

yea i don't care if they gel their hair or like journey its more like their demeanor. i think bshaw pointed out somewhere in here its like the type of people that yell at the bartenders and bang their card on metal posts and stuff in hopes of getting attention. that type of behavior is just gross. i know those people exist in every bar but when the minority becomes the majority then it is like a big blah situation

i too talk to everyone but i have no desire to talk to someone that yells at the bartender or feels that entitled to a fucking tecate. it gets really pushy in there on the weekends. its just bad vibes to me. i mean not from everyone obviously but i have encountered some. sad panda days.

it is still great on the weekdays but who has time for that?!!??

also i wear skinny jeans!!!!!!

I only don't wear skinny jeans because I absolutely cannot. Not that I'm dying to, but I have tried them on, more out of curiosity than anything else. it was bloody hilarious.

And I don't know anyone in this thread well, but have met Brian and Justin a handful of times, and can tell you, Brian is in the same boat as me.

People who get drunk and demand drinks squirm out of every social puddle there is--don't kid yourself. I highly doubt Neptunes is ruined because there's just an influx of cavemen banging on the bar every weekend at 1am. That's just silly.

And seriously, I've spent plenty of time in Slims in years past, a handful of times in Jackpot, and used to go to Kings back in the day some (still haven't been to the new shit), but, I've plodded around in circles that are CERTAINLY deemed hipster, or whatever, and can tell you from first person POV that I had COUNTLESS friends and acquaintances who let "douche" fly pretty often whenever someone looked a little too made up for the evening.

Sidebar--Slims is, and has always been a fun place.

and my point is you'd likely find someone who for all intents and purposes is just like you, has the same tastes, etc, who would react the same. Maybe it's more widespread among that "community", but seriously, I've met some useless, raging prick hipsters in my day.

Matter of fact, former friend of mine put out a cigarette on a girl's face he didn't know one night. For clarification purposes, she didn't look terribly douchy or anything. But, when her bf confronted him (and very meagerly), the guy damn near broke his face off. And I've only seen that guy once in the past 5 years since then. That was at Jackpot with a gaggle of folk around him.

Hell, who knows, could be a Socs vs Greasers type thing.

Who's playing Cherry Valance? Let's get a rumble together.

Shit, also, buck the hell up! Maybe show the Socs whose bar it is.

and no, I'm not releasing that person's name.

no disrespect, but you look like them. And, something ought to be said for a place where, arguably, you KNOW you can go to meet other people who are just like you, and nothing more.

and I'm being remiss in not including the "douches" in the debate of who judges who. because they most certainly do. And there's probably some truth to the idea that these folk might actually be going to the bars you love because they feel you don't want them there. Tension out the gate. Both sides guilty.

Personally, I think we should all wear vintage hi-top sneakers, skinny jeans, an affliction shirt with a cardigan over it, and a hat with a dragon on it.

Full-on social melting pot.

i certainly don't look like the majority of neptunes' normal crowd, but find thegoodlife3's observation regarding the normal politeness and fun atmosphere to be correct.

as others have said, the overall atmosphere has changed. sure, there's a few bad apples in all crowds, but they come fewer and further between with the usual patrons versus the guidos who have overrun the place the last few weeks.

it has nothing to do with appearance; sure, in my first post bumping this thread i alluded to to gelled hair mongoloids that overran the place this past weekend, but that's merely me engaging in hyperbole and joking about the situation.

i was sitting at a table beside a friend in a polo shirt, for christ sakes. it's not about attire, it's the attitudes; the increasing number of confrontations (not involving me, mind you), the banging on the bar, the coming up and belligerently demanding the DJ to play what they want to hear (ie. attempting to force their own hand at changing the dynamic of the bar they chose to go to, which is a whole other discussion regarding turning the "new place" into the last place)

i'm no pretentious elitist, but this group of Ke$ha cunts that sat beside us last night damn near drove me to insanity and the gaggle of guidos they brought with them were equally annoying.

it was as if neptunes was temporarily transformed into "The Bassment", or wtfever that shit box is now. i am certain that the perfect scenario for the owner of a bar is to have a dynamic and diverse group of patrons, but when a certain segment of them alienate your regulars.... the folks who do show up on random weekday nights... it's bound to eventually hurt your business when the guidos move on to their next flavor of the week.

What's the answer? is Neptunes what was once Alibi? I would say they ought to just rough it up a bit, but Alibi wasn't exactly The Mint. Hard to explain how that is happening, because Alibi never got like that, at least in the dozen or so times I went there to drink/dance my balls off. Weird. What do the DJs usually play? Is it like the spinners at Jackpot, or do they play a close enough semblance of top 40 that these guidos, etc, feel comfortable asking for Ke$ha? That's a strange dynamic. I would venture to guess that these people are just starting to appreciate the more off-the-grid places, but if they're going in there just to change the dynamic, that could certainly suck.

^and I thought Polo shirts were now socially neutral!?! Shows what I know.

And what exactly were people doing to annoy you? Requesting shit music?

the polo shirt reference was made partly because of the over-generalization earlier in the thread about the attire allegedly the norm at Neptunes. (the skinny jeans reference already addressed by tommy wiseau.

i don't think it's some collective conspiracy by the guidos to change the dynamic of the bar. my intent of conveying that observation from last night was to pose the question: why go to a fucking bar where you' re just going to go request the same music that you would normally hear at whatever douchey bar you normally go to on glenwood south?

^ the ke$ha cunts were just awful. they were mocking a lesbian couple sitting a table in front of them, they were standing up on the fucking booths with their heels on doing god knows what damage there, knocking drinks over, being very verball abusive at the bar to those busting their asses to serve them, etc.

i must say, i've seen one of those three things happen by "regulars". not hard to guess which one it is.

you also seem to be grouping in a lot of people in your rant, when I saw only one or two people even mention clothes at all. I don't give a fuck what people are wearing. I don't care when the place is packed; the goal of the place is to make money and when it's at capacity from 11 pm to 2am, then it's doing just that. on weekdays it's a lot more chilled out. the vibe of the bar on weekends is usually just drunk and dancy... so what started as "the hipster bar"" (whatever that means) has turned into a place where a lot of people go to dance and hang out. which I have no problem with. I don't have a problem with Glenwood South types unless they are being rude or annoying (though it does make me roll my eyes some when I get that crowd asking "why don't you just play some good shit, like Dave"). the shitty thing about the crowds is a)it gets hot as fuck in there b)super hard to get drinks c)rude people. but I don't understand who you're directing your condescension at when you say things like

Quote :
"I don't mean to generalize, but mostly, you kids perpetuate the same divisive cultures that the douchebags do."

and I also don't get why you call people out for judging other people, when you are the one that posted in the Hopscotch thread last year that you didn't want to go because you'd have to be around too many scenesters every night.
