Just signed up for Premium. So far I'm impressed. Interface is friendly and idiot-proff. I'd prefer if it didn't have facebook shit all over the place, but maybe there's a way to get rid of all that.
I hope they add blackberry compatability at some point. Yes I'm one of the 13 assholes who still has a blackberry 7/15/2011 11:01:43 PM |

$9.99 a month? I was intrigued, but I think I'll stick with Last.fm, where I get a decent radio with music I like (don't have to make playlists), recommended radio to discover new music, its on my 360, and pay $3/month for mobile.
I might try out the free version on my laptop still. 7/16/2011 12:52:14 AM |

The most intriguing feature that drew me to premium is the high quality stream. Sounds great in my home receiver & speakers. I figure for the price of a couple micro brew beers at the bar each month, it's worth it. 7/16/2011 1:27:06 AM |

Most of the invites here are supposed to show up in under 2 hours. I think mine took like 45 minutes. I did the Coca-Cola one, but I think they're all the same. 7/16/2011 2:53:52 AM |

I've had Spotify for about 2 years. Like someone else, I also had a UK account that I'd log into once every 2 weeks with a VPN trial. Once Grooveshark took off, it wasn't worth the effort. It's nice re-discovering it now that it's launched here and finding lots of songs that I had never added to GS because I had only found them via shared playlists.
That's really the best feature of Spotify, the shared playlists. Grooveshark is pretty much better in every other way--besides an iPhone client--especially price. I pay $3/mo for mobile access. I'm grandfathered in, you can't get that deal anymore. But they're still cheaper for everyone else at $9/mo instead of Spotify's $10/mo. Grooveshark also offers yearly purchase discounts $90/yr vs Spotify's $120/yr. Lastly, each season, Spotify sells shirts in their web store that come with 1 free year of Grooveshark Anywhere access--all for ~$20. Can't beat that!
The version of Spotify everyone is trying out through these invites is called "Spotify Open." After the trial is up, they will likely revert to the "Spotify Free" terms, which means only 10 hr of streaming/month without purchasing a premium account. If at that point you think Spotify is worth the extra $1/mo or $30/yr (or $100/yr if you get the shirt deal) just for its playlist capabilities, consider this alternative: Use Spotify Free to subscribe to the playlists, and then copy them over to Grooveshark using http://groovylists.com/http://groovylists.com/ I have not yet found any tool to convert Grooveshark playlists to Spotify though 7/17/2011 9:29:04 PM |

under the DMCA, it's legal, it's like youtube.
is it licensed? no. but Grooveshark doesn't provide the music.
it will probably hinge on the outcome of youtube vs. viacom

ive been trying to figure out the same thing... doesnt say on their website, but I believe, from other sources, its 10 hours a month? this correct?... the UK Spotify Free was 20 hours and had a sort of timer bar at the top of the client which isnt there in the USA spotify free. 7/19/2011 11:12:11 AM |

Is this sarcasm? It's much easier to click on a song and have it play then having to search for it then download it and wait. I don't see what's "easier" about torrenting. On spotify it's just all there streaming.
But to that point when I find new albums on Spotify I like I do go ahead and download them in better quality. Haha.7/20/2011 10:34:22 AM |

Quote : | "The Spotify Service can be accessed
(i) as an ad-supported free-to-the-user service having no monthly cap on listening hours or a cap on number of plays of a unique track during the first 6 months following creation of your Spotify account but thereafter a cap of 10 listening hours per month and a cap of 5 plays per unique track (the “Free Service”),
(ii) as an advertisement free version of the Spotify Service for which you pay a monthly or yearly subscription (the “Unlimited Service”),
(iii) as an advertisement free version of the Spotify Service including an offline mode which makes it possible to listen to music without a connection to the Internet via conditional downloads and other additional features for which you pay a monthly or yearly subscription (the “Premium Service”), and
(iv) as a version of the Spotify Service that provides access to aspects of the Spotify Service via a supported mobile handset (the “Mobile Service”)." |
so you get free reign to everything for the 1st six months, then the restrictions come in unless you pay $14.50 a month (I believe thats what they are charging). I'm not sure if the 5 song cap resets every month or is a forever cap7/20/2011 6:51:10 PM |

The slick interface and near instant playtimes I like a lot better than grooveshark, but I doubt I'd pony up for either of them. 7/29/2011 12:39:37 AM |
