There's a lobster roll truck in DC, but it's $15 a roll, and the rolls are small. Not worth it. For $25 I can get 2x as much lobster and scallops at Legal Seafood. And you get a side.

I'm thinking these trucks are a novelty and the prices are going to have to come down for them to sustain themselves longterm.

they aren't selling the food, they are selling the idea of a Food Truck. They are making themselves the spotlight of anxious tweets of finding these hard-to-find food trucks. Almost like telling all your friends you found some underground VIP club with no name on the door. And for $15, that's what makes it exactly what the Hipster ordered

Sure did! Not too much so it didn't make the crust all soggy. They were really easy to make, especially if you're lazy and buy a pint of cue from somewhere like Cooper's

A lot of the food trucks aren't that expensive, really. Pie Pushers is about the equivalent of going to Peppers on Franklin Street. KoKyu is a little pricier, but they have unique stuff so it's more worth it imo.

for some reason i don't think food out of a truck with no indoor seating should cost the same as similar food in a brick and mortar restaurant

NO WAY

for a city that can be so awesome at times, it's things like this that show how far off we really are

I don't see the food trucks as competition with the restaurants as far as dinner is concerned.

Lunch on the other hand...they could put a serious dent into the restaurants around the financial district. I can see why some of these places would throw a fit.

Or maybe it'll encourage the restaurants to learn how to serve lunch within a lunch hour. That shit used to really annoy me with some of the restaurants down there.

NO, PLEASE TAKE YOUR TIME AND CHIT CHAT WITH YOUR COWORKER ABOUT YOUR YEAST INFECTION. IT'S NOT LIKE I HAVE TO BE BACK IN THE OFFICE ANY TIME SOON.

If they had it their way, there wouldn't be any new restaurants.

I'm all for having the food trucks downtown. When I get lunch, I find a place, get the food to go, and bring it back to my office and eat it there. Nothing like having more options on a day-to-day basis.

I don't know how many customers fit my profile, but a brick & mortar establishment would certainly be at a disadvantage against a food truck. I'm not interested in the ambiance or the air conditioning because I'm getting my food to go.

On that list, the only one of those establishments I've ever spent money at is the Hibernian. I will not spend any money there again.

I can tell you that the restaurant association is fighting this hard. Restaurant owners have to get inspections and pay fees that these food truck people do not. I'm not saying they are right, but they will have a good argument.

One good argument the restaurants have... I agree that food trucks should be subjected to inspections and sanitation grading

Food trucks DO have to get inspected and pay fees, it's just not the same exact set of inspections/fees as a restaurant.

You answered your own question. Their clientele would be interested in food trucks, they could potentially not have as many customers with the variety and trendiness of the food truck scene, et cetera. Not that this justifies the oppression of food trucks in any way.

Here's the thing I don't get:

If the city was against all sorts of mobile eateries competing with restaurants, I'd understand.

HOWEVER, they have no problem permitting hot dog carts that set up on the goddamn sidewalk on the same block as a restaurant. Granted, the Klausie's truck might take up two parking spots on the street, but what's the difference other than that?

The quality you'll get from food trucks is a hell of a lot better than a Sabrett cart, so why is one allowed and the other isn't?
