If they were in a volatile relationship because of his actions, I highly doubt he would have the kids more than she did.

Just sayin... you usually have to do something pretty bad as a mother to not get the kids for the majority of the time.

You can't make a blanket statement on something like custody. There could be tons of factors that led to this custody situation. It could be something that they agreed on outside of court. She might have moved away for another job and they didn't want to take the kids out of their schools and away from their friends. He's a musician? I assume the majority of his jobs are on the weekend. So she takes them while he's working and vice versa.

If it actually went to court in front of a family court judge...then maybe she had a shitty attorney or went pro se. She might be okay now, but had a recent history of drug or alcohol abuse.

I could go on. Just saying that while a quick glance at this would make you think something like that happened...in reality, there are tons of variables that go into custody decisions that make every case unique.

^Yeah, that would be my guess. When they were together, he took care of the kids in the week while she was running her business and she took them over the weekend when he was performing. It was probably easier to keep it that way after they split, but when one or the other realized they didn't want custody to be determined that way, I'm sure that's when it got ugly. There's nothing that says this was a court arrangement.

Grant Ruffin Hayes, 32, and Amanda Perry Hayes, 39, are accused of killing Laura Jean Ackerson, 27, who was last seen in Raleigh on July 13 and reported missing two days later.

The dismembered remains of a woman found Sunday near Oyster Creek, about 60 miles south of Houston, are believed to be Ackerson's, according to authorities in Fort Bend County, Texas.

Chief Deputy Craig Brady said that Raleigh police detectives who traveled to Texas to look for Ackerson believe the remains are hers. It appears she was killed in North Carolina and that her body was taken to Texas, Brady said.

Joe Garza, a crime scene witness, said he saw authorities take two coolers wrapped in saran wrap, a gun and a saw out of a house.

Ackerson was reported missing after she failed to pick up her two sons from their father, Grant Hayes, in Raleigh. Her white 2006 Ford Focus was found in the Camden Crest Apartments, near Glenwood Avenue and Lynn Road, on July 20.

Family and friends have said that she and Grant Hayes were involved in a custody battle and that their relationship had been "volatile."
