even these so-called good cops clam up and protect the bad ones through silence

that, in my opinion, makes them all guilty

fuck ALL police

The parents are obviously leeches and are going to milk this one for all its worth. Seems like they're playing up the relationship between them and their son just to get more sympathy and perhaps increase their money pay-out. Honestly it's pretty disgusting.

Other than that, yeah it's a horrible case. Feels bad man.

The "death to all cops" ITT shit is pretty uncalled for though. TWW can't hide it's idiots anytime law enforcement comes into question. Some of you people would have clapped if six homeless men beat a cop to death.

It doesn't make me dislike cops in general when these things happen. There are hundreds of thousands of cops in America, obviously many of them are going to be power tripping rage fueled dickheads.

It makes me dislike cops when they shelter the cops who do this. If these cops were immediately placed on UNPAID suspension and investigated by an external and unconnected agency (not internally) and fired/jailed when found guilty I wouldn't have a problem with police in general.

Innocent until proven guilty. They are still conducting an investigation.

They aren't working, they shouldn't be paid. That's how it works in most fields, why not for the cops?

If someone who works in your restaurant is sitting in a jail cell waiting for a trial, are you going to keep paying them?

First of all, those riots didn't start until after the police trial.

Second, there's not nearly as much racial tension anymore.

Also I can't even tell what that dude is by his face it's so freaking busted up.

This is the response I was gunning for. "Trolling" for, some may say.

But on the forreal-side, even now when I watch footage of the LA Riots I'm sincerely shocked. The 90s were straight-up crazy:

The LA riots weren't even really a 90s thing. That was like a horrible culmination of decades of police abuse.

AHA, I'm aware that it happened at the start of the 90s.

I'm just saying it had more to do with decades of police abuse than this notion that the 90s were somehow "crazy." AHA

I mean, that's like our least craziest decade!

I just saw an interview with the father. He was on medication but would often go off the meds and wander. That's why he would be homeless and probably explains why he had altercations with his mom.

I don't think that people who are mentally unstable should get off without punishment BUT this guy lost his life because the police suspected him of breaking into a car.

That is ridiculous.

I also don't think that ALL cops should be lumped into this. Same thing with any other profession (or group for that matter), don't let the few tarnish the whole.

^Yeah! People are smack talking the parents, but dude was in his 30s. And, whether people like it or not, there really isn't always a whole lot you can do in a situation like that. Just try to keep in touch with them so you can give them food/clothes on occasion. Encourage them to take their meds and maybe alert the police if you think somebody is hurting them.

The Police Union is suing the blog that broke this story for defamation.

A whistleblower from the police department claims the officers bragged about the beating and have very good quality security camera footage from the incident that they aren't releasing.

This is ridiculous. The officers should all face manslaughter charges and hopefully will. What the fuck is going through the heads of these guys are they are beating a man to a pulp? Glad this was not another white officer on black man case because then a true shitstorm would be taking place.

Most likely because its evidence in a criminal case. There are two (2) types of investigations that occur during an incident like this or any officer shooting.

(1) A criminal investigation from a third party to determine if the laws were broken (miranda rights get read, etc). The investigating agency gathers all the information they have and turns it over to prosecutors; its ultimately up to the prosecutor to determine if charges are filed.

(2) An internal investigation that only determines if the the departments policies were broken (garrity warnings, etc). This investigation protects the department to an extent because they, the department, can claim the officer acted outside of his scope/training etc. Also, Garrity Warnings compel an officer to testify int he internal investigation but their responses can't be used against them in criminal proceedings.

http://www.cnn.com/2011/09/21/justice/california-homeless-death/index.html?hpt=hp_t2

Quote :
"A police officer has been charged with second-degree murder and another faces an involuntary manslaughter charge in the death of a mentally ill homeless man who died after a confrontation with police, California prosecutors announced Wednesday.
The actions of Fullerton Police Officer Manuel Ramos, who has been charged with second-degree murder, "were reckless and created a high risk of death and great bodily injury," Orange County District Attorney Tony Rackauckas told reporters.
The second officer, Cpl. Jay Cicinelli, is being charged with involuntary manslaughter and felony excessive force, the prosecutor said.
The charges come in the death of 37-year-old Kelly Thomas, who was beaten by police during an altercation in July and died five days later. The FBI is also investigating civil rights violations in the death of Thomas, a homeless man with schizophrenia.
Six Fullerton officers were put on paid leave after Thomas' death. The case put widespread attention on the police department of Fullerton, located about 25 miles southeast of downtown Los Angeles.

Since then, two other brutality allegations have been made by men who were allegedly injured by Fullerton police last year, and officer Kenton Hampton has been placed on paid leave in the wake of one of those two complaints, a department spokesman said.
The district attorney has described the incident involving Thomas as "a violent and desperate struggle."
Thomas' father told CNN that he would like to see at least two of the six officers charged with manslaughter because, he said, "the other four weren't as involved."
Ron Thomas spoke outside the district attorney's office just before the prosecutor's news conference was scheduled to begin Wednesday morning. He said the prosecutor's office wasn't going to allow him into the news conference, but he was scheduled to meet with the prosecutor afterward.
Regarding all six officers involved in the arrest of his son, Thomas added: "They should all lose their jobs and not be allowed to work in law enforcement."
A family attorney for Thomas has already publicly released Thomas' hospital and medical records showing that he was brain dead by the time he reached the hospital after the police altercation. Thomas had no narcotics or prescription medicine in his body, the attorney said.
According to the medical records released by the family attorney, Thomas died from brain injuries as a result of head trauma. Thomas also suffered multiple broken bones in his face and rib fractures, and he was shocked multiple times near his chest cavity and on his back with a police Taser, the family attorney said.
Thomas suffered nose and brain trauma and smashed cheekbones, according to the medical records. The family attorney accused police of using their Tasers to deliver some of the head and face blows.
The medical reports provided by the family attorney said Thomas suffered internal bleeding, and Thomas also choked on his blood, the family attorney said.
Several bystanders witnessed the encounter and others recorded portions of the beating on cellular phones, according to the family attorney.
The incident began after six officers responded to reports of a man attempting to break into cars near a bus depot just blocks from Fullerton City Hall, according to police.
Following the beating, there was no evidence that vehicles were burglarized, nor was Thomas in possession of any stolen property, according to the Thomas family attorney.
Thomas was taken off life support five days after the July 5 incident."

That video doesn't have shit on this one
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RZ1qMUmsTy8

I know not all cops are bad, but it seems like most of the fuck ups I knew in high school never left home or never went to college and eventually became cops. I also know a couple kids who were total losers in HS and are now on power trips since they have a badge. These guys really are a fucking joke. It is a major problem when people who are on the "front lines" of the justice system are as uneducated and uncouth as the criminals they are arresting.

Also, it seems more and more cops are playing the "wannabe military" role. Combat pants and boots, M.O.L.L.E. belts laden with all kinds of gear and gadgets, riot police squads marching and singing cadences. The militarization of our police forces is quite alarming...and actually serving in the military myself, this shit pisses me off to no end.

Criminals should be punished, but it seems that instead of fixing the root problems in our communities (no jobs, poor school systems, lack of public resources) we just unleash a bunch of police thugs to beat the shit out of any questionable character. Respect needs to be given in order to be earned.
