That's far from the truth. I wouldn't chill on No Hand King's block at 2 AM, for instance. But the parking lot of a Food Lion while it's open? Please.

i've eaten at both many times

also to chime in on the Food Lions the one on Avent Ferry is far less sketchy than the one on Western

When I dared to visit the one on Western the place had the vibe of pending jihad every time

we go to the Western one all the time because it's the closest and easiest to get in/out from where our office is on campus

it's one of those places where if you go enough, you lose your fear of "the other"

lol wtf, I used to live in walking distance from that Food Lion. Once when we had a bad ice storm I walked over there to get beer because our power was out and there was nothing to do other than drink. As a single female at the time I never felt unsafe over there.

That's pretty much the deal with Pearl. Cheap ingredients prepared well. The beef will be chewy, the chicken will be fatty and greasy, but otherwise it's really good. I'd pay a couple bucks more if they used better quality meats, but I doubt the rest of West Raleigh would support it.

That helps, but it also works if you're poor and people just don't see the point in picking on you or trying to get anything of value out of you. That's the vibe I go for at least.

Pearl had some awesome chinese food when i was going there back when living in Clarion Heights condos (04-05). Also, megabites pizza was freaking awesome when asked for it well-done. that extra few minutes in the oven really made the pizza so much better.

as for food lions, i liked the avent ferry one more than the western. thought it was easier to get to as well, maybe just me though.

dude Pearl is awesome all people who say otherwise can suck it. My roomie and I had pearl like once a week when we were fresh/soph. but dear god don't go to that shanghai express or w/e it is on hillsborough street.
