If you like good beer, Flying Saucer downtown and soon Tylers Taproom in Seaboard Station. Raleigh Times is great for cheap eats, good beer and people watching. PBs is good for Hepatitis A.

Another thing you can do: Check out the other sections of the wolf web! The lounge will have events and stuff going on (in a more serious manner than Chit Chat), entertainment always has threads on upcoming movies/concerts/etc., and sports talk will take care of any sport you are interested in!

Don't spend exorbitant amounts at the crossroads theater- go to mission valley for new releases or blue ridge for month old $1.50 movies.

best sports bars:
Bada (mission valley)
Sammys (mission valley)
Tobacco Road (glenwood south)
Brickhouse (hillsborough st.)

hole in the walls:
Goat
Ruckus (dank pizza, mission valley)
Sadlacks (hb street)

NCSU bars:
The Players Retreat (hillsborough st.)
Mitch's Tavern (hb st.)
East Village (preppy, hb street)

Clubs
Still life (Gwood South)
Solas (multi level club w/ rooftop, Gwood South)
Ess Lounge (Warehouse district)
City Limits (trashy 18+ club)

Hipster/Trendy Bars:
Raleigh Times (near Fayetteville st.)
The Hive (rooftop, fv st.)
Iaasac Hunters Tavern (fv st.)
Foundation (fv st.)
Landmark (fv st.)

Live music
The Berkley Cafe
The Pour House (moore square)

Irish bars
Tir Na Nog (moore sq.)
Napper Tandy's (gwood-ish)
The Hibernian (gwood)
Flying Saucer (not irish but lots of beer)

party-type bars
Lucky B's (gwood)
Ugly Monkey (trashy)
The Downtown Sports Bar (not really a sports bar, gwood)

off the top of my head. I'm sure many here will disagree with the categories but whatever. I'm from here so PM me if you want to know anything more about what this fine city has to offer. I really think it's a jewel of the South but alas, many on TWW are haters.

Hipsters hate the Hive. It's too Glenwood South... I like it, though. Best outdoor seating in Raleigh?

And also, Woody's is a better sports bar than any of those listed except TR if you actually want to see/hear games.

[Edited on August 25, 2011 at 5:32 PM. Reason : and isaac hunters hipster? lol..]

i guess landmark and the times are sort of hipster, but if that's a category, neptune's should be on the list

the hive a hipster bar?? i don't think so

I could've used a thread like this back in the day

Goodnight's Comedy Club near downtown has both local and nationally recognized comedians do shows there all the time (I've seen Tosh and MacDonald...McDonald?) So check it out and see who is coming to town. Don't have the website off the top my head, just google it.

But Neptunes is the epitome of hipster bar.

That's just silly. I have this argument all the time it seems, but I so very rarely see that type of crowd in any bar aside from Glenwood. I never see but one or two that would fit that cliche in any bar on Fayetteville Street, Wilmington St, at Flying Saucer, etc... unless you think anyone who wears a polo or a button up shirt is a fist-pumping guido.

And I go out a lot and to a wide range of places, so it's not like I'm some recluse who doesn't see the downtown scene.

^^Don't listen to the haters in this thread. There's a lot of pretentious judgemental people on TWW. Most of the places mentioned are great, and aren't full of annoying people (regardless of what is said on here). Also nothing wrong with working at the Flying Saucer. They make good money and all seem like a cool bunch over there (one of the few bars in Raleigh that is busy every night).

[Edited on August 26, 2011 at 9:15 AM. Reason : and don't bother with Lynnwood Grille. It's way the f*ck out in North Raleigh]

I'm sure that's more of a statement of annoyance over the certain group of loud judgmental type on TWW that make it their quest to shit all over 85% of bars/eateries in Raleigh. It's the single most annoying trend on this site... Or maybe he's e-gaming?

My business is right next door from Mac's.. it's a solid bar actually, and I've had a few pretty fun evenings there although it tends to be an older crowd. Plus I get to play guess that tune when I'm sitting at work hearing their music blaring through my wall.

The offer to tailgate was serious, although you'd have to be willing to hang out w/ 5 drunk dudes drinking cheap beer trying to throw a bean bag through a small hole in a wooden board for 4 hours.

I've always heard of it referred to as West Raleigh or sometimes Northwest Raleigh and I lived off of Lynn Road for 15 years. North Raleigh is Six Forks Road, son.
