I have only felt ok with one gyno, just because she didn't make it awkward and had great bedside manner.


And yes, gynecologists do clinical breast exams. I honestly can't even think of a specific doctor that would ONLY deal with breasts. Gynecologists, obstetricians, oncologists.. they all can check your breasts. (As well as other medical professionals)


As far as having a male gyno, I don't see why it's that different for a male to be that close. Chances are if they're a gyno they're not going to try anything because, well, their business depends on it. I would also hope they would be mature enough not to make a pass at a patient.

I mean...when I had my reduction it was the most awkward thing ever...not only cause it was a middle age man staring and touching my tits but it was also my friend's dad.

When I first found out I was preggers, I saw a male doctor for the initial exam. He had to be retirement age. He did the exam with my husband present and it happened to be the only exam in my entire life where a doc probed my bottom. it was mortifying.

My last pap was done by one of the male gynos at the practice I go to. I just feel weird when he feels on my boobs but I don't care about my vagina. Hmmmm...

I did ask him how he is able not to get aroused by it and he said it is not a sexual thing to him, he constantly thinks CANCER so it becomes a turn-off. On a side note, he has like 5 kids.

understandable. It's just hard to understand how ... sterile genitalia becomes in a clinical setting. Procedures involving breasts or other anatomy might as well be attached to arms with all the attention they garner sexually.

Can't really explain it. They just aren't breasts when I'm trying to find out what's wrong.

my gyno is male. it's never been weird. the very first one i went to is the same guy my mom sees, who also delivered me. he seems like an asshole & i got a little weirded out that he's mom's gyno too...so i switched. 2nd gyno was a woman, but she left the practice & i was given the 3rd/current one. he's really nice, actually listens, & it's not awkward at all.

i've seen a lot of doctors (endocrinologists, neurologists, etc. - in addition to GP) since i was a kid. i've never been uncomfortable bc the doc was male. it's medical, clinical. i don't really understand why it would be be uncomfortable but to each her own i suppose.

Trust me. I get the clinical/not sexual part of medicine. I was in the medical field for 8 years. I had to work on females and never once got aroused. It was all about the training and how to treat the patient.


And I love a good vagina. I just have no interest in looking at them for 8 hours a day for a living.

Male doctors have weirded me out, gynos anyway, maybe because I am a modest person or insecure. Whatever it is I just feel more comfortable with a female even though I'm all "I'm so sorry you decided this as your profession" lol

I will be honest and say today I had a male doctor for the first time.. "probe down there." It was mortifying. He had the nerve to ask, "Is this uncomfortable?" It was all I could do not to blurt out, "You're digging your finger around there like you're picking your nose - what the fuck do you think it feels like?" >.< /TMI (but seriously, it was so embarrassing)


As for male pediatricians, I see no issue with that.. but I also work with pediatricians who refuse to do exams without another medical professional in the room Guess they're paranoid about people claiming they touched the kid in a weird way

And, if you have a family history of early onset breast cancer you should start receiving mammograms at least 10 years before the earliest diagnosis within the family.. and if you have a BRCA mutation, you need to start at 25 years old.

I guess the only thing that gives me the creepy about male gynos are those stories that pop up of doctor misconduct and sexual assault from time to time. I know that 99.9% of male gynos don't do those things, but it's always in the back of my mind.

The first person to ever do a pap on me was one of my Mom's good friends and I babysat her children. After that my Mom decided I should go to the same gyno that she goes to who was also male. At age 17 I felt really weird about it, but she didn't give me a choice. Then I finally got to go off to college and see a female gyno at NCSU. They were probably my favorite. Now I have a male gyno in Albemarle, but he is gay so it doesn't bother me.
