Each student will need their Student ID to receive a ticket. Students can receive a maximum of 1 ticket for the event. We have limited quantities of tickets and will be distributing until supplies run out. The ticket tables will be located in front of Harrelson Hall across from D.H. Hill Library. "

I'm curious about:

1) The content of his speech.
2) If there will be any Q&A
3) Why this appears to be so short-notice
4) Why NCSU?

^lol.

I'd like to get a ticket if for no other reason than to be able to tell people I saw/heard the President speak at NC State...Regardless of what I think of his job performance.

He's campaigning for college kids. Recent poll numbers indicate that he is very unpopular with this demographic right now.

He's campaigning for North Carolina. Recent poll numbers indicate that he is very unpopular with this demographic right now.

He's campaigning for job creation with a demographic that will soon need jobs...college seniors. Recent poll numbers indicate that he is very unpopular with this demographic right now.

He's campaigning for independent/swing voters and UNC is already chock full of naive liberals who will die for his cause. NC State likely has more Republicans and Moderates who could swing his way (though you can't tell by looking at TWW). Recent poll numbers indicate that he is very unpopular with this demographic right now.

He already did a campaign speech a month or so ago at Cree (Durham, RTP, just down the road) flaunting his ability to create jobs. He's back in NC since this is an important state in the upcoming election.

Seriously, this. But I'll probably go to wake up and get tickets at 8AM, not want to get out of bed, and just say fuck it.

Probably pushing 1,000 in the brickyard right now. Hard to tell since the lines snake out of view everywhere. There were probably around 500 people who camped out overnight. Just read an ABC11 article that said people were camping at Carter-Finley, too.

I was getting ready to head to campus, but my hatred of lines is gonna overtake my desire to see the president speak. Glad I checked this thread before heading over there.

1> job stimulus.
2> doubt it. This is just a media op. He could make the same speech from the rose garden and save a lot of headache and taxpayer money. Do you know how much it costs for him to travel?
not just air force 1, but advance teams, secret service, overtime for local police and highway patrol. a C-130 to transport the limos (two of them) etc.
3> security. less time for baddies to plan an attack. unfortunately it makes it hell for everyone else logistically.
4> reynolds is just a venue. he has no interest in NCSU. he wasn't invited. the white house booked it. as stated in 2, anyone who attends will see that the best seats will be four levels of risers for press and TV with the best ones reserved for the white house press corp.

Obama has been a disaster as a president and I'm sure as hell not going to vote for him, but if I were a student, I'd attend just because you do not get to see presidents in person often. Obama is a good orator, too bad he has no clue how to actually make all the shit he promises happen.

Yeah, because the president has absolute power in this country to change whatever he wants.

Whether I agree with his policies or not, I'd have loved to see any president in person.

got a ticket, stoked about tomorrow...i figure i'll get bojangles and then get in line since it doesn't appear that they have any way organizing the seating besides first-come/first-served (though the student tickets are yellow and the faculty/staff are red, so maybe they'll have assigned sections?)

the ticket says cameras are allowed, but not bags, so i'll probably just bring my D90 and 18-200mm without a bag

You can bring a camera, but I would highly suggest not bringing a purse or anything extra (ladies)...throw your stuff in a wristlet.

You will get searched/metal detector

There should be tons of volunteers all around helping to do crowd control

at least this is how it went at broughton

The secret service guys are fun to watch/mess with (well at least mine were...some are srs business)

[Edited on September 13, 2011 at 3:38 PM. Reason : don't mess with them if you're not working with them lol...easy way to get thrown out]

hahaha nice. yeah the hippy douchers came in full force with hammocks and tents and smelly smelliness. I'm not an Obama fan/supporter either. Hoping there's a Q&A session.

Unmarked cars with the tint-tint-tint in front of Reynolds.

Suits with sunglasses lingering around the edges of the building.

I ended up not getting a ticket, but I have a friend who might give me his.

Will decide tonight if I actually go. My teacher canceled class so that we could go, but meh.

If I could just go and hear the President deliver the speech that would be one thing, but having to muck through polarized bipartisan crowd bullshit is a lot more direct management than ignoring politrolls on TWW.

staff/faculty or student ticket? i don't know about the students, but the staff and faculty had to write their names on the ticket and it was compared with their ID

haha, the presidential motorcade draws a slightly different reaction here in DC. It's more like

aw snap...it's the motorcade. FUCK...now traffic is going to be gridlocked for the next 25 minutes.
