I always pronounced it "yeero" until a dude (a greek lookin motherfucker) at a gyro place pronounced it like "gyro(scope)". He was from Jersey, though.. so take that fwiw.

I would pronounce it jyro. But I just don't say it any more since I never get one. Tried a whole bunch of places since people kept telling me they were great but I never found one I could take more than two or three bites of.

The pizza/gyro place next to Subway and Wolfmart that used to be Pizzamerica sells gyros.

I know this because in the window there is a picture of a beautiful girl that says "GYROS" at the top.

At the bottom of the poster is a smaller caption that says "EAT MORE GYROS".

Needless to say I was sold.

Last week we were talking about having gyros for dinner soon while I was quizzing him about helicopter gyros. I think I paused before saying the latter pretty much every time.
