Looks like Nash may be the odd man out of the forward corps if we only roll 12.
9 defensemen left, have to assume that Murphy and Faulk will go down at some point unless a trade goes down

I hope that Cam Ward isn't our best player again. Wish we would have talent at another position. (Lookin at YOU Paul Maurice).
Heck almost anything new behind the bench would be nice.

Paul Maurice v2.1 is the worst thing in recent memory to happen to this franchise.
I say 2.1 because when he took Laviolette's failing offense-only system and added a teensy bit of defensive responsibility, we made it to the ECF before getting swept by the Pens. Then the next season started and we were back to boring ol' Paul Maurice hockey. 10/1/2011 5:26:33 PM |

Are we though? I mean I'm no Maurice fan but the only time this team locks it down is in the third periods when leading, and in fairness to Mo they were something like 27-1-0 last season when leading in the third. 10/1/2011 7:16:43 PM |

The roster situation with the D is intriguing as hell to me, very excited to see what they do with it. So weird to have too many options a year after having Jay Harrison as a regular Top-6 guy. 10/5/2011 11:42:13 AM |

and we still have dumoulin and mark alt coming in the next few years.
Between some of the forwards who didn't make the team out of camp (looking at you Boychuk) and these extra d men, we will have some options if we have to pull the trigger on some top 6 help. Hopefully it won't come to that.
But if somehow we do very well and look to be in a strong position to buy in February...we have the chips to do so.

Never thought id say this, but i like the looks of our d over the next few years.
I love the pairing of faulk and Allen. I think theyll do really well together, and allen isn't afraid to protect the kid. The fight with boll was because boll ran faulk. Good stuff to see.
Keep Gleason and ditzkanen ... for now.
Then kaberle and ? I'd like to see Murphy play, but i dont think we have room. I think he goes back to junior.
So what do we do with joslin harrison and mcbain? I think joslin is my least preferred, but I'm not ready to ship him off. I like different things about Harrison and mcbain. I guess rotate the two? 10/5/2011 4:28:07 PM |

^^10 game trial before his contract counts, did you never hear of that? I expected him to make this roster. Where he is in 9 games I'm not sure. I think he's potentially headed to junior. But its very possible that he performs like a stud out there when playing against nhl rosters, gotta see

^^^chill bruh
Murphy is probably going to get, at max, his 9 games and be sent down. I couldn't see him making the team even before Faulk had his awesome camp. He's just going to be filthy back in juniors and while that may not be the best thing for his development, he is just too small right now and gets blown off the puck too easily.
He is ridiculously fast and looks awesome with the puck, but we have too much offensive D up here right now. Maybe after we trade Pitkanen at the deadline, Murphy can get a spot next year
also I don't know how I feel about having mcbain on the roster but not playing him every night. He had some rough times last year but he needs to be playing every game. Is he on the last year of his entry level deal? Theoretically, he could be a Checker without being subject to waivers? That'd be a big blow to the ego but at least he'd be getting top line minutes.
McBain just needs a kick in the rear, I'm sure he'll be much better this season. I think JR is sandbagging a trade...hard to think he'd send Pitkanen out of town right after giving him that contract, but we have too many offensive pieces. JR now has too much of his favorite thing. Maybe McBain is going to get traded early on? Something is going to happen after the first 10-15 games, I definitely have the feeling.

There's a lot I like about mcbain, and want him to play here... but i don't want him on the shelf. I think Harrison is pretty solid too, he can have a long career at depth positions. He's got a great attitude about playing, and is a guy I want on the team. All this talent we have now is going to get expensive, I'd hate to push Harrison out and be left with some garbage like oleg turnoverdovsky as a depth defenseman. 10/5/2011 4:55:15 PM |
