I refuse to ride the rides at the fair (half of them make me sick anyway), and I can only eat so much wild and whacky food- I am ok going to it, or missing it

lol well yeah but those are apples and oranges. If I was choosing between those two it'd be Busch Gardens every time

Yeah, but with how expensive the rides are at the fair it's worth it to get a day pass to the park.

[Edited on October 10, 2011 at 10:14 AM. Reason : not to mention the rides are waayyyyyyy shittier]

I don't bother with the rides at the fair. I'm there for the food, giant vegetables, and people/animal watching

Pretty much. Just park in the Hillsborough lot like you would for the flea market and walk in.

actually got this from a co worker

Visit Gate 9 off Trinity Road, or Gate 12 between the Education & Commercial Buildings only after 11:30 a.m. on weekdays. This offer is not valid at other gates or on weekends.

Purchase a lunch card at the gate for $8 with cash (cash sales only).

Buy your lunch from the many fair food vendors on site. Fair food vendors take cash. ATMS are available inside the fairgrounds.

Return the lunch card by 1:30 p.m. to the same gate you entered on the same day purchased the card for a full $8 cash refund.

If you leave later than 1:30 p.m., then you forfeit your $8. The card is good only on the day purchased. This program is only for adult admission.

As far as I know there isn't any public advertising about the fact you can go to the fairgrounds any day this week without a ticket. They don't exactly want to be advertising that fact But since all this week you have crew setting up and people dropping off entries for the fair, they have food vendors open as well.

Going next Thursday. When we leave we say it wasn't worth it and we won't go back next year. Been saying that every year for probably 5 years now

It's fun for my kids though, my oldest can ride some of the kiddie rides now and her school has a booth set up there this year. Plus I love a deep fried Twinkie, Mrs. Debbie's Apples and that booth that gives out cups of chocolate covered peanuts for $.25.

I'm leaving town this first weekend.

I live south of the fair on Blue Ridge and it's going to be awful.

Went yesterday and had a great time. The red velvet funnel cake was great. As far as parking...we went to the park and ride in Cary and rode the bus in. Traffic was a nightmare near the fairgrounds and most of the lots were full.

Just got back. Parked at Carter Finley with no trouble. The trick is to get to the Carter Finley lot using Youth Center Drive.

I was tempted to try the red velvet funnel cake but I like regular funnel cake too much.

On 96Rock they were saying the new things were deep fried brownies, deep fried bubble gum, cupcakes shaped like hot dogs, and something else I can't remember.

I have not heard of this yet. Would like to try. Though since I realized how easy funnel cake is to make I sort of hate buying it.

^ Yeah but funnel cake is the sort of thing I would never, ever make at home. I like having it as a once a year treat at the fair. Nobody needs to be eating funnel cake more than once a year

I totally agree. I was a little pissed at my grandmother for getting me a funnel cake making set. She always did like trying to fatten me up.

I'm going tonight.

I don't know why I stress on what to wear to the fair, because you always know someone (x10) will look worse

I always have trouble deciding what to wear not because I care what I look like, but because the weather is so wonky this time of year and I don't want to take a jacket and have to carry it around, or have the sun go down and freeze my ass off wishing I'd brought one.
