few things
a) I don't feel it is fair to compare 4g phones with 3g phones. These are the first 4g phones and they will all have their quirks that need to be worked out. Secondly, I feel most of the companies (HTC, Samsung, and LG) were rushing their product out the door. I can't really blame them because American is very impatient. Apple is 3g on Verizon's network so I group it accordingly.
b) Additionally, multiple companies use android software, however android always gets the blame when usually its the companies fault. HTC knew they had battery life issues, but was in such a rush to be the first to put out their 4g phone they didn't fix it, imo. That could have something to do with Verizon pushing them as well. Who knows. But now everyone that has a Thunderbolt and says fuck android when it should really be fuck HTC. Same goes with the original Motorola Droid. It was the first of its kind and, like with anything, is going to have its issues.
c) Verizon puts a shitload of bloatware on Android devices, but not on the iphone4. That really pisses me off. 10/16/2011 11:43:51 AM

with this and all of your other "problems" either it's user error or you're buying shitty equipment.
I can solve most problems with my phone; if not, a 30 minute trip to VZW and it's fixed or I'm getting a new device; no money involved.
I have 2 working PCs (notebooks) that haven't cost me anything since I've purchased them; one is 8 years old and the other is 3 years old. They both run like champs. Sure, I've had some issues with them, that I either fixed myself (for free) or had repaired/parts replaced (for free).
It has nothing to do with the OS. It has to do with YOU.

I will say that for its time, the iPhone 4 was a great phone. It's also the first iphone that I thought looked good because it looked nothing like the older iphones.
Similarly, the iPhone 4S is a great phone... for the iPhone 4's time. For today it's too small for a premium phone. 10/16/2011 11:54:06 AM

did you even read my list of bullshit problems with my phone?
and thats just my current phone
my last phone never received phone calls [edit: in its last few months of life it wouldn't show the calls coming in, just voice mails for some reason, and i couldnt answer calls that DID show up because the touch feature to 'one button' answer stopped working], would reset itself to default setting and then magically come back on with my settings, the touch feature would cut out and make the phone useless... yes these sound like user error... or possibly shit quality phones from the manufacturer (not android)
it just blows that theres not a company out there that can make as solid a hardware device as apple for Android, i love the Android OS, and yes, that was a mistake on my part not making that distinction between the fact that its the products, not the OS that i am frustrated with.

Quote : | "^ Overpriced, difficult to upgrade, no games" |
Overpriced? Well their build quality is top notch, their multitouch trackpads are second to none, their specs are decent (yes, there are pcs with better specs at a lower price, but I always feel like I'm downgrading everything else, such as build quality, increase in frustration and work). The iMacs aren't really overpriced at all for what you get. The problem is people make apples to oranges comparisons and compare them to a typical desktop. But the fact is, it's an all-in-one computer that has an IPS screen, a dedicated GPU. The Dell all-in-one can be had cheaper, but comes with integrated graphics, more HDD space, yes a bigger touch screen. But seriously though, the build quality is shit, touchscreens on All-in-ones are a gimmick (uncomfortable to use, not practical, a selling point) and the quality is shit compared to the IPS panel in the iMac. I would take the iMac hands down. It's a better product.
Difficult to upgrade? Depends on what you're referring to. Their laptops are no more difficult to upgrade than any other laptop. The iMac is more difficult, but it's an all-in-one. They're all difficult.
As far as no games is concerned, you are aware that Steam is now on Mac? There are plenty of games now for Mac OS X and more are coming. Not to mention you can always dual boot to Windows and get your game fix there. 10/16/2011 11:56:30 AM

Would I rather have an imac than a dell all-in-one?: Yes Would I buy a dell all in one anyway?: Hell no
Referring to desktop PCs, the kind you would use to play really good and graphically intensive games, the kind of games that aren't on Mac.
As for installing windows on a mac, you're saying one should buy an overpriced computer THEN spend an extra $100 for windows? Why not just use a dedicated windows PC?

That's why I have a desktop PC that I built as well, to play games, although it is no quite old (about 5 years). You completely missed the point of my post. They're not overpriced or difficult to upgrade, no more than their competitors.
As far as not playing games, that comes down to software. If you want to buy a computer to play video games, then no, a Mac isn't for you. But that's not a reason to "hate" Apple.
But what this comes back to is your inability to read. I am fully aware of those three reasons you listed. Do you know why I didn't list them though?
Quote : | "And I'll bet most of these are stupid superficial reasons." |
Price, upgradability and not meeting your needs/wants are not superficial reasons for not wanting to buy a Mac, but rather legitimate reasons for not wanting to buy a Mac.
Oh, and how old are you that you're still spending hundreds of dollars (if not over a thousand dollars) building/buying gaming computers? I could see a poor ass 16 year old having a problem with Apple's price and that there are "no" games available for Mac OS X. But a grown ass adult, how is that even a problem? Get a console so you can play with friends (if you have those) or grow up. 10/16/2011 12:29:59 PM

^ thank you
i think wanting a 'working phone' is not a superficial reason either. if you read the list of apps i do have downloaded on my phone youll see that all i want to be able to do is dick around every now and then and answer a damn phone call... and not have to re-start my phone when i wanna send a text message as it freezes a lot when it tries bringing up my msgs (and from a previous thread, i decreased the max amnt of messages until it auto deletes them, and make a point to keep less than 15 convos running... all of which i shouldnt HAVE to do anyways) and it still freezes 10/16/2011 12:36:42 PM

I wonder if people used to say "grow up" to people who liked movies? I know they said it to people who liked rock music.
I spend a couple hundred dollars every couple of years upgrading my computer, I don't have a top of the line PC but it always runs anything and will run most things on max right after I upgrade. I have an xbox also but many games are exclusive to or play better on PC.
I don't like apple but don't blindly hate every product, the Air isn't overpriced compared to its current Windows competition if you for some reason need computer you can put in an envelope. And although I think all tablets are overpriced the iPad is probably the best right now.

Too many people here saying that problems with a phone aren't problems with android when that's completely false. Google doesn't give a shit who makes a phone with android or whether it works at all. Look at Apple and Microsoft and you dont see the same problems as Android phones have. Having 0 quality/spec requirements ends up with a bunch of shit phones where manufacturers are trying to squeeze every penny out of a device. I bought 6 Droid Xs late last year for our office (not even 12 months yet). I currently have 2 of them left. Mine was swapped out 4 times with the 4th being a new iPhone. 2 others were swapped 3 times with the 3rd being an iPhone. 1 other has been swapped 5 times now with various other Androids (user is determined to stay with android with an Incredible 2 currently). Strangely, I haven't had to do anything for the iPhone users since we switched.
You can't do as much with an iPhone but when it boils down to it, the phone actually functioning is a pretty big advantage.
As for Mac vs Windows, I typically prefer the macbook options but the new stuff coming from Samsung and Dell is looking more promising especially since I require Win7 for work. 10/16/2011 1:33:32 PM

and yeah, when i switched to my 4g android i loved receiving phone calls again... however, the interface when the call comes in, switches back and forth from the puzzle pieces to big buttons... idk why that is. maybe its when people are calling from 'mobile' or from 'home' or favorited people come in with a puzzle piece? im pretty sure its not supposed to be changing like that tho... but i havent investigated it further and really hadnt thought about it until now... hahaha

The only problem I've been having with my Android phone is that it didn't come with a lot of memory and it tends to slow down a little bit. Just like a computer that is a tad overloaded. Everybody hates my carrier (AT&T), but they've been great to me for the past 12 years (Cingular in the beginning).
Most Android fanboys don't like my phone either (Samsung Fascinate), but it's been great for me. The display is amazing (better than any iphone I've compared it to). I've played with plenty of iphones, and I like them, but not enough to switch over. And REALLY REALLY REALLY hate typing on a touchscreen. I mean....it seriously sucks, and I have relatively small fingers. I text a lot and write a ton of emails on my phone, so the SWYPE is a HUGE benefit. It will seriously prevent me from ever switching to an iphone. I don't know how all you techies put up with touchscreen keyboards w/o swype.
As for the plastic comment...what's the benefit?? I've got a very slim case and I drop my phone all the time (ruined my Blackberries on a consistent basis because of this)...and I don't have one nick on my Android after several dozen+ drops.
I like apple. Love my classic ipod and my macbook (which has crashed several times actually)...but my android phone is perfectly fine. 10/17/2011 10:18:02 AM
