You should move to Pensacola. You can help me keep my toys in top running order, we could share stuff like trailers and tow rigs and shop space, and I'll be as much of an asshole as you want me to.

Smoked 1.5 packs a day as a teenager and while I lived in NC, then I quit when I moved to CA.

I will have one every now and then when I'm drinking, but I really can't fathom how much I used to smoke.

I smoked the summer I worked downtown/lived with a smoker.

I take full responsibility for my actions but man, it was a lot easier to quit once I wasn't around cigarettes at home and work.

I still smoke hookah once or twice every couple months though since my roomie fires his up pretty frequently.

I rarely smoke anything else.

I am down to a few a day. Sometimes I go days without smoking but I have had such a hard time quitting altogether. I have been smoking for about 15 years and at one time I was up to over 2 packs a day . I consider the 2 or 3 a day I smoke now not that big of a deal but I'd like to quit completely because I don't like it that I feel like I HAVE to smoke. Fuck addiction.

I quit for good in january. I was training for a half marathon and I thought it felt wrong to go run and then come home and smoke. Also I developed this weird anxiety around smoking - when I could smoke again, when my pack was getting low, having to go to the store to buy more. Plus it was getting expensive. So I got some of the gum and haven't touched a cigarette since. Now I can't really imagine smoking although sometimes I dream about smoking again.

I feel great and know I made the right decision

Started when I was 16 and quit when I was 22. I went to China for the summer of 2008 and the cigs there were much much stronger in tar and nicotine. Not to mention air quality there was horrible (couldn't see the sun most days in Beijing). I was up to about a pack a day and when I got back to the states US cigs just didn't do it for me so I got up to a pack and a half. I took a shower one day and coughed up phlegmn (so?) with a drop of blood in it. Never smoked again, not even a drag. Quit August 15th 2008 and don't miss it at all.

I have never smoked a cigarette in my life... and never will.

Not trying to judge anyone who is addicted, but I look at it as the most disgusting habit on the face of the earth.

** and a pet peeve of mine is people who claim to exercise regularly and eat healthy to become more healthy then smoke 5 packs a week..

i've pretty much quit after smoking daily for 7-8 years. in the last three months i've smoked 3 times. someone left a pack of cigarettes here this weekend, though, and i'm kinda tempted to smoke one now.

I'm averaging less than one cigar a month, but I do smoke cigars.

And I just recently bought a pipe and some tobacco from George's.

Started smoking as a habit when I was around 15 (1984-ish) and was almost 2 packs a day by the time I quit in '08. Patches, welbutrin, gum...none of that ever helped. Chantix did the job. My wife, her mom and I all quit off my one 3 month prescription.

Health reasons...they want you to be as clean as possible when you are on a transplant list.

As an aside, I can hang out with smokers and not be bothered too much. I have crawled off a vagina for dragon breath though.

I smoked about a pack a day for 10 years.

I quit using an electronic cigarette (Nicotine, but no carcinogens). I'm still using it, but I started at 18 mg nicotine and am down to 8. I step down 2-4 mg per month or two.

I haven't had a smoke since July 1, 2011

I did have some pretty vivid dreams (some odd, some haunting) but that's it. There were no other real side effects noticed from any one of the three of us.

I am married to her and was/am quite fond of face to face relations. That moment was when she decided to kick the habit too. Since I didn't use up my prescription I let her have the rest. As stated, 3 people quit off one 3 month deal.

i have never smoked cigarettes... probably less than a pack in my entire life.
I smoke a cigar every now and then... maybe 5 or 6 a year. does that count?

I quit for the most part...some a few if I'm drinking sometimes...but instead of smoking a half a pack to a pack a day I now am down to maybe 4 cigarettes a week...and that's if I drink heavily...

I've gone about two weeks without a cigarette..

I did it cold turkey, just up and quit, woke up one morning and said I was done smoking.

i'll smoke on and off for a month or two and then quit for 6. or smoke for two months and then quit for a month. it really depends on my environment and stress levels at work and such.

not really...at least, not in the way that something like fen-phen did...you'll have a hard time finding conclusive evidence that nicotine causes weight loss through increased metabolism or anything else

of course, i assume you're saying this in regards to the fact that most smokers go immediately to a cigarette when stressed, bored, whatever...as opposed to a lot of fat americans that go immediately to food

so it's not that smoking "makes" you lose weight so much as having the addiction takes the place of overeating

never smoked and will never understand why people do it

especially young people

i tried to be open minded once and went out with a smoker. worst date ever. he asked if i minded if he smoked in the car and i said yes. so i sat in the car staring into space for 10min while he smoked outside. and during that time i realized that i was right in my decision to not date smokers.

What quagmire02 said. While nicotine does probably have some stimulant qualities, it's a vasoconstrictor, and therefore diminishes blood flow to the body somewhat. I personally don't see how it would directly affect metabolism.

It literally is the crutch most people go to when stressed in lieu of food. Interestingly enough, I think it actually induces some stress or makes it worse.

^when I didn't smoke, I was pretty turned off by smokers and the smell. So you might question why the hell I do it, or how I ended up dating a smoker. Evidently, at the time, the positives outweighed the negatives, as I thought she was worth it. And then I ended up starting back. Amazing how addictive the shit is, even after 4 years of not smoking.

I'm dating a smoker right now. She has cut off smoking around me. I don't press the issue just help her along. She's getting better and better it's nice. Guy you went on a date with sounds like a Doh. I do know people like that.

I've never actually smoked a cigarette. Primarily because I know all the good reasons not to, and I've never had a very strong desire to try, so why tempt fate? Plus I dated a girl who was an occasional smoker (usually when she drank or was really stressed) and I think that just underscored my desire not to.

I've had a couple of cigars, and while I kind of enjoy the cigar itself, I always wake up with a tightness in my throat and feel lousy the next morning. Kind of ruins the experience itself knowing what's likely to happen later.

i've smoked on and off for years, not really addicted, but definitely pretty heavy at times. went i spent a semester overseas i started smoking a great deal, mainly because it was the social thing to do.

for whatever reason, a few months ago i completely lost a taste for cigs. it's like some switch was flipped in my head. the thought of having a cig right now sounds very unappealing.

now a pizza, on the other hand, sounds great.
