i don't know how he was as the morning show person as i didn't really listen, but i grew up listening bob the blade (since high school at least) and enjoyed his sarcasm and sense of humor

Bob the Blade was fine. Not the funniest guy out there but all I'm really looking for in the morning is some people talking about local news, sports, events, etc and giving a bit of commentary on it.

Other than sports talk the only stations I would regularly listen to in Raleigh were 88.1 and 96 rock (infrequently). After getting XM radio I can't imagine not having it.

I really enjoy 99X..wish they had that type of rock format here in the triangle. Really couldn't get into 96 rock.

BOB 93.3 is the superior Top 40 station (compared to G105). They're much better about their variety (OMG I don't have to listen to Katy Perry once an hour!)

every pop station in america overplays the same songs. This is not unique to raleigh thats why katy perry won a lifetime achievment award at the amas lastnight (highest honor). Sounds like you have more of a problem with commercial pop than raleigh's radio market. Sure its terrible but its catchy as fuck to livin to on the ride home. You don't have youtube in your car and they only play it once every 20 minutes so they do cycle some songs around.

The interesting part of this is that it is being sold as "we fired all the DJs because you want less talk and more music and this will make us a better station."

Good plan. The only thing that distinguishes FM radio from slacker/pandora/spotify/mp3 is the personalities. So you take that away and you are left with a station that has to compete against services that are doing the same thing, but with fewer/no commercials. That is some advanced thinking right there.

Nope, I got blown out with the rest of the airstaff. I have nothing bad to say about anyone there. I just question whether this decision is a good one in the long run. I also question whether this is more of a long form stunt, meaning the station will eventually turn into something else. It would be a hell of a lot easier to go from "radio 96.1", which has no obvious musical leanings, than from 96Rock, which has a specific following.

Time will tell, but my personal opinion is that you will either have DJs back on the air within 6 months or the station will be a totally different format. Just a hunch.

Fuck all the haters. Bob the Blade is one of the best radio DJs in NC, been around forever, and my dad was his radio mentor waaaaaaay back in Eastern NC.




Anyway, Rock 96 will be missed I guess. Don't listen to it much at all, only when there's sports on WKNC. I wish Raleigh had the equivalent of Eastern NC's 99X and 105.5.

I wouldn't really care if it was. I just want to be able to listen to sports radio sometimes, such as during games, and I don't get any out where I live. Hell even the rock station (singular) goes out halfway through town...I haven't listened to the radio since last year once I got last.fm on my phone.

96 Rock has sucked ever since it changed from alt rock to 'Championship' rock during the Hurricanes' Stanley Cup run. Then they stayed that way and you got maybe one new rock song for every 100 stale hair-band jams.
