I'm going up there with one of my sisters again and my parents, May 17th to May 20th. My mom hasn't been since the mid-60s and my dad has never been.

Last time I saw...

Air and Space Museum on the national mall
Museum of American History
Arlington National Cemetery
Vietnam Memorial
Lincoln Memorial
Washington Memorial
Jefferson Memorial
WWII Memorial
Ate at the Capitol City Brewery
Ate at 5 Guy's Burgers on M Street

My parents will want to see all of that stuff which will take 2 days. The Capitol Building tours are full and we are going to go to the new wing of the Air and Space Museum before we leave on the 20th. What should we go see that I haven't already?

Skip 5 guys

Portrait museum has either the only one of one of 2 da Vinci originals in the US
Archives is pretty cool
Newseum is okay. But they do charge admission.

And the national zoo is fun (although its up the red line and its only really enjoyable when the pandas are out)

Skip the eating at Capital City also. The food there is gross. Hell, 5 guys and potbellys are better.

I don't see natural history museum on your list. That's a pretty popular spot.

^^^Capital City Brewery on NY Street was good when I went. Are there any other micro breweries in DC?

I don't remember the beers at cap city being bad, just the food.

But to answer your question, DC Brau, Port City, and Chocolate City are local brews. If you want to try a lot of different beers, head to RFD.

If you're going to go to DC and eat a hamburger, you might as well go to Good Stuff on Pennsylvania Ave SE near the Capitol.

If you are eating on the mall there is a cool cafeteria in the basement of the American Indian museum, with a regional hodgepodge of Native American food.

Twins Jazz or similar place on U St is something different to do.

The problem is that the website says to be there by 6:30 am in the morning to get tour passes during peak touring season which is now.

I agree that Baltimore is a more interesting town

I just think its poor form to drop the B'more on a DC thread

I'm just saying that instead of doing second-tier things in DC, hop on the train and check out B'more for a day, too.

The American Visionary Art Museum is way cooler than the Bureau of Printing & Engraving, for instance (I've been to both).

Walk around the tidal basin, then when you're done, jump in the Patomac for a nice cool evening swim. The river doesn't have a strong undercurrent or anything, it will be so relaxing!

This thread is relevant to my interests. Except we know which touristy stuff we're gonna do--just need to know where to eat and drank.

Assuming you're not trying to be too fancy about it:

The breakfast/lunch place in Eastern Market is pretty good if you like seafood. Also gives you a chance to check out Eastern Market.

If you are a fan of cooking shows like Top Chef, you can go to Spike Mendleson's restaurants on Pennsylvania SE (Good Stuff and We, The Pizza -- they're next to one another).

Ted's Bulletin on Barrack's Row is good for brunch and just general eats. People rave about their homemade pop tarts.

For your drinking needs, H St is basically a better version of Fayetteville St.

Hah, last time I was on H street someone got shot about a block away from the restaurant where we were eating.

Had a good time at H street country club though. Overall a good night. H street is just so.... Out of the way though

For a safe sterile time in DC for a day or two, just keep it south of Mass Ave and west of N.Capitol St. You'll be aight.

Oh cool! Some of the museums have extended hours on certain days during the summer! Now I won't have to rush quite as much.

Where is the room where they keep the motorcycle and all of the things that are left at the Vietnam Memorial Wall? I saw a show about the wall on tv the other night and people were looking at everything stored in a museum.
