they are better on different foods

on the whole, though, I see ranch as vulgar compared to mayo. Because it's not really a condiment at all: it's just instant lardy yumminess that you can put on anything. Dip your pizza in it, for God's sake. Whereas mayo just quietly accentuates the flavor in certain mayo-amenable foods.
