This is kind of surreal. I met him at Pullen for some swim lessons back in '06 when I was doing triathlon. He gave me some tips and I was definitely grateful for that. I personally witnessed the guy knocking down fast laps. I also ran into him at InsideOut group rides where he was definitely a stronger rider than me. He seemed pretty legit as an triathlete but I was certainly surprised when he told me he was going to be on the Chinese (I believe it was China) national triathlon team the following year.

What he did is definitely odd, but it really seems that they are going overboard. I knew a couple of people who could probably be classified as pathological liars back in college. While I didn't respect them for it we'd usually just call them on the most ridiculous b.s. stories and laugh about them behind their backs. It certainly wasn't Technician-worthy material.

He helped me train for my first triathlon, and for my first marathon. He loaned me a heart rate monitor that I still have (oops). Never had a problem with the guy.

Other than being a little socially awkward, he seemed like a pretty normal student and very devoted athlete. He was ALWAYS training.
