"Tom Brady is one of the best QB's in NFL history in regards to pocket mobility.

He practically ushered in the new era. "

disagree. he's been blessed with an awesome o-line his entire career, able to stand in the pocket like a statue. the rare games that a team is able to get pressure on him is when he struggles, see the Giants giving him fits in the Superbowl.

and ushering in a new era? the previous era didn't have guys who were mobile in the pocket? Montana, Elway, Marino, Kelly, Young, Farve...remember them?

It seems to me he was referring to a new "passing" era. 4k yards used to be a historic milestone and now you have guys passing for 5k consistently. The league has done a good job catching up, but popular convention was you couldn't win without running the ball before Brady/Hoodie came along.

^ What about Rich Gannon in Oakland when they were spreading everyone out with the spread, short passing attack?

Accuracy and mobility are the keys to success in the NFL today. Brady, Brees, etc are the rule... the Stafford big armed QB breed is dying fast because they almost never make it through a full season.

Yea, Philip Rivers sure can't survive, neither can Peyton Manning or Eli Manning

yeah, i don't think those guys were representative of any era; they each were basically middling players

i don't think the quarterback position, and those who play it, has evolved all that much from 15+ years ago. i'd say the expansion of the passing game has more to do with rule changes.

passing records are a joke. DB's can't touch a receiver, if a defender so much as sneezes at a QB it's a penalty, offensive lineman hold so much it's not even funny.

rule changes allowed those insane passing numbers this year, not some great influx of QB talent.

I'd like to go on record that Drew Bledsoe was not a middling player with the Patriots. He was great and got Wally Pipped.

I will admit that he did throw a good number of interceptions, but he brought that franchise out of the ashes.

Tom Brady also ushered in the era of prima donna quarterbacks and rules that dont allow a QB to be touched in the pocket without a penalty.

From ESPN today

Quote :
"The Tennessee Titans narrowly missed qualifying for the playoffs in Mike Munchak's first season on the job. The good news is that they certainly have an encouraging foundation upon which to build; the bad news is that their competitiveness yielded them the No. 20 overall pick in the draft, last in line of the non-playoff teams. Nevertheless, the Titans have shown an ability to find difference-makers late in the first round. Chris Johnson was the No. 24 pick in 2008 and Kenny Britt was the No. 30 selection a year later.

While those two play on the offensive side of the ball, this year the team may try to find a playmaker on defense at No. 20, according to what John Glennon of the Tennessean gleaned from Munchak's recent radio appearance.

Glennon also took a snapshot of who some early mock drafters have thought would end up in Nashville, a list that includes Michigan State DT Jerel Worthy, South Carolina DE/OLB Melvin Ingram, Nebraska CB Alfonzo Dennard and USC DE Nick Perry.

Priorities may change between now and the draft, since this season we're back to the normal order of events, with free agency preceding the draft. But unless the team makes a splash signing, expect a new addition on the defensive side of the ball.
"

I mean if you want to congratulate ESPN for writing meaningless fluff pieces about the draft position of random teams, I guess that's up to you.

Oregon qb darron thomas is going pro. Easily the worst early entry decision of this year.

I could see him not even getting drafted. Dude is not accurate throwing the ball at all.

^I would bet that he gets drafted. Tyrod Taylor got drafted in the 6th round last year, and Wilson is certainly better than him. This mock draft has him drafted in the 4th round by the Bills: http://walterfootball.com/draft2012_4.php.

Pre-injury Bledsoe was a top 5 NFL QB, what are you talking about his Dallas days?

[Edited on January 15, 2012 at 7:40 PM. Reason : Arguably that is, right there with Aikman, Favre, Kelly, and Young. ]

TJ Yates was drafted and is playing in the NFL. If Wilson doesn't get drafted, that's retarded.

no, i was talking about Patriot-era Bledsoe. i know he made a couple pro bowls, and granted i was only a kid during his peak, but i never thought he was great. i'd have taken Young, Aikman, Elway, Kelly, Farve, Marino, Moon, McNair, Brunell, Gannon, and Cunningham before him.

any chance Bledsoe makes the Hall of Fame? no way. would it take any non-Patriot fan longer than 5 seconds to make that assessment? i don't think so. doesn't sound like a great player to me.

Wilson should go middle-to-late second round, I think. Don't know where these guys are getting 4th round from. He's one of the best out there, his stats just didn't reflect it this year due to Wisconsin's focus on the running game.

he's like the 10th best QB prospect out there

dunno where you're getting 2nd round from

I'd be amazed if he's picked before Sunday

(1st round Friday, 2-3 rounds Saturday, 4-7 Sunday? is that right with the new format?)

^^^ I'd say his stats show that he was one of the best college QBs this year, but being under 6ft tall is really going to hurt his draft status. That's why I used Tyrod Taylor as a comparison (he's just over 6ft). NFL teams don't like short QBs.

^Last year, draft days were Thursday, Friday, Saturday.

Cant argue with the mock pick for the Redskins but damn do we need some help in the passing offense (read Blackmon or RG3).

like the DeCastro pick!

Seems low for Alshon Jeffrey

Also TB taking Richardson is a bad pick IMO. You have a decent RB in Blount so you are not starting from scratch there. 1st Round RBs is not the way I would go.

Typically when it comes to pro teams I don't do this kind of irrational shit and just want the best players (even if that means they come from unc)

But this year I'm actively rooting against the Panthers taking a CB early because I want them to get Amerson next year

if the panthers don't draft a CB early, they are gonna win about 6 games again. Captain Munnerlyn is an awful defensive back.

Your 3rd corner is probably more important than your 3rd linebacker in today's game. Gamble is still very good, but after that its a bunch of JAGs. Munnerlyn is passable as a nickel, and Brandon Hogan has some promise, but I would be dissapointed if we didn't address that position by the 3rd round, at the latest.
