aha, its all opinion, but yes darjeeling was the worst for me
and by worst I mean I'd rather watch it than 95% of other movies
but aquatic is right up there as andersons best (in my opinion) 7/2/2012 12:49:49 AM |

I'm trying to be as delicate as possible with this, but that lead actress is going to be something
and I'm the biggest Life Aquatic dude ever, so I'm going to refrain from getting in that debate 7/2/2012 12:53:25 AM |

i'm not trying to be a prude with my reaction to the sexual stuff. it just didn't feel authentic to me. i don't think most 12 year-olds are savvy enough to say things like "you can touch my chest" and "i like it" (in response to the dude having a hard-on). if they had been 14 rather than 12, i'd have no beef. that said, i understand that wes anderson goes in for the 'precocious kid' thing7/2/2012 1:06:32 AM |

The Royal Tenenbaums > The Life Aquatic > Moonrise Kingdom > Rushmore > Fantastic Mr. Fox > Bottle Rocket > The Darjeeling Limited
And "you can touch my chest" is pretty much the exact opposite of savvy.

that is by far the most authentic/realistic portrayal of 12 year olds in that situation that I have ever seen (not that there are many examples, but still)
I think it's safe to say that at some point this comes down to personal histories and from what I remember this was exactly how things were at age 12
[Edited on July 2, 2012 at 1:15 AM. Reason : flip Tenenbaums with Life Aquatic and that is my list (this always happens in these threads)]7/2/2012 1:14:21 AM |

maybe i just felt guilty about thinking a 12-year-old was sexy. also, i was in a super awkward audience full of old wealthy adults. the energy in the room was weird.
i've never understood the lack of love for darjeeling. to me, it employs some of the best use of metaphor in film, the soundtrack kicks ass, and it feels like the most "mature" anderson film 7/2/2012 1:21:19 AM |

I've never appreciated the music to a wes film as I did this one, it really moved the film along 7/2/2012 2:55:54 AM |

^ I was confused about that too. I can understand people not counting Bottle Rocket since his films from Rushmore and on are so different stylistically. But Fantastic Mr. Fox has to be in the mix, even though it's screenplay is adapted from a book 7/2/2012 12:13:27 PM |

How many have you seen? But seriously, it was a little weird to bring-in 12-year boners and boobies. I din't think it was necessary, but whatever, it wasn't a big deal.
I liked the movie, but I didn't think it was great. but I need to watch it again before i can get really get a good feel. he's a "grow on you" kind of writer/director.7/2/2012 7:18:04 PM |

^^ way to leave out the rest of what I said
again, it will all come down to personal history
I remember situations just like that from when I was 12 (shout out to the Cary Ice House) 7/2/2012 9:50:55 PM |

Awesome movie. His best since Rushmore.
Very well-written and the young boy actor was fucking awesome, as was Ed Norton and just about everyone else in the movie. 7/3/2012 5:32:49 PM |

thought this movie was just ok. parts of it annoyed the shit out of me. Wes Anderson's shtick is too distracting at times and pulls me out of the movie. really liked the girl actor though. 7/7/2012 11:40:40 AM |

Definitely felt that way in Darjeeling Limited and The Life Aquatic, but didn't notice it as much in Moonrise Kingdom.7/7/2012 12:03:06 PM |
