Yeah...Philip is Dave Matthews Jr. But the ladies like him. He'll have to fuck up big time to not make the finale. Hollie and Jessica have great voices (Jessica's is a little better), but they're like little babies up there singing (both are 16 I think). Hollie has picked it up recently, but overall I think she's the worst out of the top 6. She's really stiff on stage and probably the worst performer out of all of them (tough when you don't have a lot of stage experience at such a young age). Josh is great, but I feel like I'm watching Sister Act every time he sings. I get tired of his voice. The country girl is really really good...I just don't like country and she's not hot enough. But she carries the country vote so she could also be in the finale. Elise might have one more week left in her. I think she could last a couple more weeks if she starts crushing it, but don't think she has a chance at the finale. I think Hollie goes home next week and Elise the week after.

I feel like I lost a little bit of my masculinity typing that out. But this will be the only season I watch of this.

I think I'm the only one who can't stand Elise. Her voice gets on my nerves & she's not pretty to look at so 2 strikes for me...but everyone else & the judges love her.

It is evident after last night that Steven Tyler has never listened to Dave Matthews. Phillip's version sounded just like Dave's to me...they all acted liek he did some crazy shit to it, but to me it sounded the same & I liked it. His studio version was really good, much better than the live since he had to cut it so much:

I respect Josh's singing ability, but the judges like him too much. I thought the first Queen song he did kinda sucked. He can crush a ballad and can sing some Bruno Mars, but that's about it. I don't think he has a niche in the current music market and I don't want to hear ballad after ballad.

Tonight should be interesting. There were certain people that I thought would always be safe that have been voted off (Colton and Jessica...although she got saved)....and people that I think should get voted off that haven't (Hollie).

Elise is always in trouble, but someone always seems to swoop in before her and get voted off. Hopefully it will FINALLY be Hollie...but maybe a surprise again (Josh/Jessica).

Philip and Skylar seem to be the only safe ones at this point. Philip has the girls' votes and Skylar has the country vote. They could be the final two when it's all said and done.

but she just cant be consistent and her lack of experience shows. I dont villify her like most people seem to, i think shes good and i think the judges are overly hard on her week in and week out relative to others on the show

I think Hollie has a great voice, but she really is too much of a kid. She moves like a robot up there and then they try and make her look older by putting her in a pants suit and it just looks like she's playing dress up.

I think the problem is that they compare her to Jessica. Both tiny youngins with big, booming voices...but Jessica's is a bit better and she can perform better. All of the singers have their niche...but Hollie is really stuck in hers while the other singers can do a little bit more.

Surprised no one mentioned how awkward it was to watch Philip do "Fat Bottomed Girls." That guy needs to stick to sitting on a stool or standing behind a mic. Watching him trying to walk across stage was painful.

Agreed. And honestly, while she is stupid talented, she doesn't seem that consistent. For me at least, she has had a number of really off performances, most notably, when she got voted off and had to sing (and the judges stopped her). One could argue Phillip made more points than her by singing a popular song, regardless of the artist. I love Hendrix as much as the next guy, but it wasn't a song most people have heard of.


As far as picking finalists go, I think Skylar has a decent chance given the prior success of country singers/how many middle america/red state types that watch the show, as well as her personality and somewhat consistent level of her performances (not AMAZING, but above average imo). Josh is coming on strong. I think he has a solid chance. I think Phillip has a shot as well since all the kids like him. I'd probably bet some $ that it will be 2 out of those 3.


So here's a question. When a contestant does a rearrangement of a song, are they always just taking someone else's arrangement, or is it often "their take" on the song...or do they have assistance on the arrangement...or is it always a mix of the three? If it's leaning towards the first of those options, it seems silly to hear the judges always talking about "yo dog i loved your take on that song" etc. In general how can you tell whats what with the rearrangement?

Boo. I knew she would be in the bottom 2, was just hoping Hollie would be gone. I thought she had a chance to be in the top 5, but knew it would be tough. I think she's got more talent than Hollie (and has sang more impressive songs), but this is still a young person's competition and she had a bad Wednesday night and Hollie has turned it up a bit recently.

Went to Elise's home bar last night here in Mt. Pleasant.

All kinds of crazy talented people have played here and they all said that the show itself doesnt let you have hardly any choice in songs and performance...that a lot of it is pre-done.


but thats been noted for awhile now...was a really cool thing to see though, all her friends there pulling for her.

I've seen her play at least a 100 times and she truly is a wonderful musician. She can play every instrument and sing just about any type of song beautifully. She does a James Brown tribute every year that really brings the house down...usually one of my favorite shows ever year.

It'll be interesting to see where her career goes from here. I don't know how marketable she is, but she's a performer and does well on stage. Hopefully some good producers get a hold of her and she can put some good stuff out there. She can do a lot of things with that voice, so they will definitely have something to work with.

I haven't watched American Idol since probably the first season...but I don't remember it being all kids like it was this year. Wasn't that Taylor Hicks dude pretty old??

They did "Songs from the 80s" on this season and they said that only one contestant was born in the 80s (Elise of course)...and this was when there were like 10 contestants left. That kinda blew my mind.

When they went back to everyone's "hometown" all the high schools and communities were all going nuts because a lot of these kids were still in high school! Or if they were out, they were fresh out. They didn't even know which home town to go to with Elise (born in Jersey, lived in Charleston for past 8 or so years). And they couldn't get a crowd shot anywhere because it wasn't that big of a deal. Biggest group photo they got was with like 8 people at a car dealership.

Just interesting stuff to me.

Hollie impressed me, im actually getting a little worn on Sanchez. Ledet impressed me but no way he wins. Skylar is like my little buddy i just adore her shes so fun

^Skylar's second song was good too, it was way toned down she wore a nice dress and just kinda sung a ballad. It was pretty good but not the energetic song choice she usually has

but the themes freakin blew last night i agree. the kids have no connection with these songs, when joshua said he had like a couple hours to even hear the song, thats ridiculous why do they handpick this crap for these guys

my opinion has kinda changed slightly, im thinkin sanchez and philip bottom two, sanchez is gone is what i think. I am rooting for hollie to win, but I actually now feel strongly that skylar can win the whole thing especially with philip or sanchez gone this week.

While I've liked Philip in the past, I agree. Not only do I think he has to go (based on the other talents up there), but performance wise this week I thought he *was* gone...but didnt even make it inthe bottom 3. Ledet was wayyyy better than him in their duet.
