anyone tried SCOR wedges here? I see them come up a lot on golf forums. Im not sure how much of those comments are the same guys pimping their own products though.

Playing Grandover today, pretty excited. I finally started hitting my drives straight after speeding up my backswing. Hopefully my "newfound secret" holds up today.

Sadly Ive started hitting every iron fat. It always seems to be one or the other with me. Irons vs woods.

That would most likely be because of your "new found secret."

MrLuvaLuva and I's bud from high school has got great game. He's a teaching pro at Landfall in Wilmington right now. Sponsored by Nike.

The only issue is his mental game. He's never played in a setting like that where the guys on the course aren't your friends. Even in college when he played I'm sure the guys he was paired with were really buddy buddy, and could have a good time on the course.

The guys he'll be playing with have a diff mentality. Everyone out there is clawing and scraping to get their big boy tour card.

Yea, it's a different atmosphere for sure. What's his name? I'll make sure to look for him.

Also just picked up my passes to the event. My old neighbor david mathis is one of the two guys pictured, kinda cool. I wonder if that means he'll be playing in it. I figured since he had 3 top 20 finishes in the last few weeks on the pga tour that he wouldn't be there, but maybe he will...

ive got my handicap down to a 13.5, which i am happy with. I dont know if i will get much better from there, i seem to be shooting 84-88 with regularity. As always, i feel like i leave strokes out there too, whether that is putting, or having a triple bogey blow up hole.

I'm trying to become better off the tee by incorporating shaping draws. Sometimes it works, sometimes it backfires into a duckhook when i try to do too much. Anyone have some tips? I've been pushing my right foot back behind my left foot and playing it out in front.

@Mc It sounds like from that very brief description of "doing too much" means you get an overactive right hand and snap hook it?

Some swing thoughts that might help you after setup

1) Keep your right elbow "pinned" to your right side to promote an inside-out swing path

2) "Show your watch" to the target line on impact. This will quiet that right hand and keep your wrists from breaking early, but promote the gradual turnover you need for the desired ball flight.

3) finish high, not around

Hope that helps.

took 3 weeks off. playing a tournament today at Salem Glenn CC in Clemmons NC. Jack Nicklaus course, should be a nice track, although I've never played it.

Played Wendell CC last weekend. Nice little course. It's not the quality of the Raleigh courses, but you're not paying that price either. Overall I liked the course - not many hazards (well at least big hazards) and very few sand traps. It plays well, and isn't too difficult (I haven't played golf in 5+ years and I was only 28 over mainly because of my poor putting abilities; for reference, I used to be a 10-15 over player). Got par on 5 holes, was in position to birdy 3 holes (again, putting ). If I had to guess my score if I had played this when I was a 10-15 over golfer, I'd venture to say a good round would yield me <10 over.

If you're looking for a relaxed course/atmosphere that isn't busy, and will let you play a relatively easy/nice game of golf on a budget, I'd recommend Wendell CC. I paid $23 for 18 holes with a cart; though normal greens fees are higher, but I think they're always running specials.

Golfshot. My buddy uses it on iPhone and it's pretty badass.

I'm assuming the Android version doesn't vary that much...

$30... ouch. and android users are saying it's lacking features that are in the Apple version.

I looked at "Free Golf GPS Range Finder" from Swing by Swing. It requires a paid app for scorecard/statistics, which I can find in the market. Range finding isn't a big priority to me (for now at least). I'm going to try it out next time I play. I guess I need to download it to see if the upgrade is built into the app.

I just d/l GolfLogix and will try it out today.

different note: I hate the rule in golf that you can't move your ball out of a divot in the fairway. You shouldn't be penalized (i.e. hitting out of sand) for hitting the ball where you're supposed to.

Hitting the ball in a fairway divot is like a hole in one. You should be proud of that.

That's what I tell myself anyway.

SkyDroid for GPS - it seems to work really well. Simple and to the point really.

Swing by Swing seems to work well too, but just haven't used it as much. Feels too complicated to navigate when all I wanted to see was some distances real quick.

Sonocaddie has an app I've used that I loved. Haven't upgraded it yet (one time fee) but I think I'll be doing it once I get a phone in a few weeks that has a better battery. This phone won't make it a full 18 using that app. :/

Golf Handicap Lite works ok, only keeps the last 6 rounds visible without the paid version...so meh. My brother has one that is a scorecard and handicap tracker, will have to ask what one that is.

The course rating yesterday at Olympic was 77 and change.

That means that you could shoot a +7 and still have played a better that scratch round.

That also means that M. Thompson played a little better than a +11 handicap yesterday. That's golfing your ball.

Tiger just really hurt his chances with a triple bogey.. should have been a double but he missed a short putt

still a lot of golf to play, but he really needs to make some of those birdie putts to give himself a chance. he keeps leaving them about a foot short

This weekend I'm headed to the Sandhills for a golf weekend with 19 other buddies. We're playing Legacy on Saturday, which I've played before so I'm all set there. However, Day 2 (a.k.a. play through awful hangover day) of our little informal Ryder Cup format tournament is head-to-head match play and we're going to Tobacco Road.

I checked out TR online and it looks brutal... interesting and fun, but really difficult looking. Any tips or advice besides "bring an extra sand wedge" or "be afraid?"

I played TR 5 years ago and shot a personal best 77 and only paid $28. I have not since returned as I'm sure the course will seek its revenge upon me.

unrelated: anyone know any good drills to prevent coming over the top?

some nice courses in CLT are:

Ballantyne Resort
Skybrook (the rough can be ridiculous)
Red Bridge (one of my favorite)
Rocky River (Best greens in CLT on a public course)

I recently tried out Eagle Chase and loved it. The greens were in great shape and it's a pretty course - I will be going back regularly (for $35).

^^do you have a flying right elbow(assuming you're right handed)? If so, the clubhead cover drill is really simple but effective.

You may have heard of it, but it's where you gently hold a clubhead cover under your right arm (triceps area) and practice backswings while ensuring you don't drop the cover. It's quick to fix the flying right elbow and has cured weight shift issues I've had but didn't really notice.

If you can drive the ball ~300yds consistently, you can shave a ton of yardage off of a few holes by popping it up over the trees. If not, placement golf will keep you out of trouble. Tobacco Road is one of my favorite courses.
