Well then they have no leg to stand on legally or philosophically.

I thought they went back to private funding for a bit after the whole will or won't admit females thing a few years back.

In general I agree with that based on my experience, however, you will find people who stick to the fundamentals of the religion in all Muslim countries. There are liberals and extremists among Muslims of all countries, ethnicities and genders.

Most internet attacks on Christians are usually based in prejudice towards all religious people. Since there happens to be more Christians, they become the most noticed target. So really all this proves is Christian privilege.

When someone comes after Jews and/or Muslims, they are going after those exact set of religious views and practices.

When do things like this happen to Christians? Has a plane ever been grounded for a cross or a rosary?

Look, we all agree that TV sitcoms are not the ideal here. But I think most people would prefer caricature to loathing. Certainly I think society would be better off with a "Muslim Urkel" than an image of all Muslims as terrorists who must be spied on and prevented from entering the country.

It may be that there is a mechanism by which our society can go from "fear/hatred" to "acceptance" directly, bypassing the "lampoon" phase, but on the whole I think positive representations in mass media would be a step in the right direction.
