Duke, does your airframe ever deploy to Korea? I know we hosted a few Marines (F-18 crews) in Kunsan.

we haven't been anywhere but Iraq or Afghanistan in 10 years...that'll prob change in the next year or two, I'd guess. Typically go to Iwakuni, Japan, but they might det from there to Korea briefly or something, I don't know.

Agreed on the former; the latter would also be a waste. If you have an EA-6 doing border patrol shit, you have problems.

My view is that we have troops in over 100 countries. We conduct raids, strikes, and covert ops all over the place. Afghanistan doesn't need to be special. Now, as far as my specific airframe goes, if they wanted to have a small det there (maybe half a squadron) to support special forces raids, that would make sense to me.

What would our government's (or media's) motivation be for claiming that the NK rocket had blown up?

You conspiracy types need to get your story straight. Either we're trying to fabricate news to justify a war, or we aren't.

If we're trying to justify a war, we want the launch to be a rousing success. "See! Kim Jong Un can launch missiles at anything!"

If we aren't trying to justify a war, why build up the news of the launch for the past several weeks?

The only other option, conspiracy-wise, is that we wanted an excuse to cancel food aid while simultaneously keeping a lid on the desire for war. Except that doesn't make sense, either, because US farmers are all about having their food bought up by the government for any reason, including shipping it to fucking communists.

Having ruled out the "most plausible" conspiracy theories, we're left with two choices:

1) There's an even more elaborate conspiracy in place that has somehow been kept quiet, in spite of the need to involve thousands of people.
2) North Korea, a country previously known for its inability to feed itself or do anything right, at all, ever, built a rocket that didn't work too well.

I know where the smart money is.

The clear motivation is to keep the desire for war down. We are already at war but don't want war because there is no imperial benefit. If people find out they are actually a threat, they will wonder why we are dabbling with Iran's 20% uranium while NK has icbms and nukes that reach us territory.

Make NK look pathetic

Sooo...why spend the last several weeks building up the threat of this launch? Why not ignore it entirely, give them the food aid we promised shortly before, and proclaim a huge advance in peace and development?

You realize that is a picture of a successfully launched US satellite from Vandenberg AFB, CA right?

Oh I get it, you posted a random photo, without any link to the article or photocredit and hoping to imply that was the DPRK missile that 'we shot down'....

Unfortunately, you didn't call me out on it because I didn't make a comment when I posted the picture. the only thing you did was correct me after you asked my opinion.

Perhaps others got the same misconception and you helped them, too.

I forgot to thank you for your commitment to eliminating misconceptions. I take full responsibility for posting the picture under my misconception that it may be a failing rocket in a non-captioned AP photogallery of North Korea on a day where the news is dominated by a failed rocket launch. Looking back, they did have other pictures from other locations but I was unaware of any successful California launch on this day.

Look, you fucking little nutrider, those comments are beyond mundane. Every military aviator I know has at least a SECRET clearance and knows numerous O-5s across all branches (well, ok, I don't think I know any USCG CDRs). Cobra Ball is a small community, sure, but it's not like they're fucking celebrities. Maybe by your boring standards, those comments constitute bragging. I don't know. I casually made that comment because it's just that, a casual comment that I would make any ol' day, because it's not a big deal. What's pathetic is how (a) you take that as bragging to begin with, and (b) you are firmly attaching yourself to my nuts over it.

I would like to get in touch with that dude and find out the whole story, though...but I'm not aware of anywhere here in training command to get on a SIPR machine.

In unrelated news, I just sneezed. You have any smartass comments to make about that? Some bizarre-ass way to construe that as bragging, too?

The conceptual inability of many tww users and in the general populous continues to astound me. A rocket breaking apart in the 1st-2nd stages is possible and leaves a debris trail, of which most all of it falls back to the ground/ocean. This wasn't a catastrophic launch pad detonation. For a missile 'designed' to get into orbit failing to get close is a failure. Even for a ICBM missile integrity is required to orbit (or near orbit) to be considered functional. This was a failure of both potentials.

Sure

What Is OPSEC?
Operations Security, or OPSEC, is keeping
potential adversaries from discovering our
critical information. As the name suggests, it
protects our operations – planned, in progress,
and those completed. Success depends on
secrecy and surprise, so the military can accomplish
the mission faster and with less risk. Our
adversaries want our information, and they
don’t concentrate on only soldiers to get it.
They want you, the family member.
As a family member of our military
community, you are a vital player in our
success, and we couldn’t do our job without
your support. You may not know it, but you
also play a crucial role in ensuring your loved
one’s safety. You can protect your family and
friends by protecting what you know of the
military’s day-to-day operations. That’s OPSEC.
Protecting Critical
Information
Even though information may not be
secret, it can be what we call “critical information.”
Critical information deals with specific
facts about military intentions, capabilities,
operations or activities. If an adversary knew
this detailed information, our mission accomplishment
and personnel safety could be jeopardized.
It must be protected to ensure an adversary
doesn’t gain a significant advantage.
By being a member of the military family,
you will often know some bits of critical information.
Do not discuss them outside of your
immediate family and especially not over the
telephone.
Examples Of Critical
Information
• Detailed information about the mission of
assigned units.
• Details on locations and times of unit
deployments.
• Personnel transactions that occur in large
numbers (Example: pay information, powers of
attorney, wills, deployment information).
• References to trends in unit morale or
personnel problems.
• Details concerning security procedures.
Puzzle Pieces
These bits of information may seem insignificant.
However, to a trained adversary, they
are small pieces of a puzzle that highlight what
we’re doing and planning. Remember, the
elements of security and surprise are vital to the
accomplishment of our goals and our collective
personnel protection.
• Where and how you discuss this information
is just as important as with whom you discuss
it. Adversary agents tasked with collecting
information frequently visit some of the same
stores, clubs, recreational areas, or places of
worship as you do.
• Determined individuals can easily collect
data from cordless and cellular phones, and
even baby monitors, using inexpensive receivers
available from local electronics stores.
• If anyone, especially a foreign national,
persistently seeks information, notify your
military sponsor immediately. He or she will
notify the unit OPSEC program manager.
OPSEC IS A FAMILY AFFAIR.
All Family Members Are Part Of
The Army’s OPSEC Team. They Need
To Protect Information To Ensure The
Safety Of All Our Soldiers, Civilians,
And Army Families.
DISCUSS OPSEC WITH YOUR FAMILY
You Are A Vital Player
In Our Success! “OPSEC is a vital element in
protecting the Army’s soldiers and
missions, and I want to stress how
vital a role every member of the team
plays in ensuring that we deny our
adversaries potentially useful
information.
“Whether we are on duty or off
duty, we cannot afford to let our
guard down. Your diligence in OPSEC
is key to ensuring our effectiveness in
operations and our collective safety.
Together, we will succeed.”

What Can You Do?
There are many countries and organizations
that would like to harm Americans and
degrade our influence in the world. It’s possible,
and not unprecedented, for spouses and
family members of U.S. military personnel to
be targeted for intelligence collection. This is
true in the United States and especially true
overseas! What can you do?
Be Alert
Foreign governments and organizations
collect significant amounts of useful information
by using spies. A foreign agent may use a
variety of approaches to befriend someone and
get sensitive information. This sensitive information
can be critical to the success of a terrorist
or spy, and consequently deadly to Americans.
Be Careful
There may be times when your spouse
cannot talk about the specifics of his or her job.
It’s very important to conceal and protect
certain information such as flight schedules,
ship movements, temporary duty (TDY) locations,
and installation activities, for example.
Something as simple as a phone discussion
about where your spouse is deploying, or going
TDY, can be very useful to our enemies.
Thank You
Thank you for taking the time to read
this guide. Our goal is to provide you with a
greater understanding of the Army’s security
concerns. The information in this guide is not
intended to frighten you or make you suspicious
that everyone you meet is a secret agent or
terrorist. But stay alert – if a stranger shows
excessive interest in the affairs of your family
members, military or not, notify the authorities.

The new inside sales.
