Or if traffic is heavy come to a complete stop before crossing the tracks to make sure you can clear the crossing. I'm always amazed when I watch people mindlessly follow traffic over the tracks without making sure they won't get stuck.

Yeah 40 was a mess. I got off at the Page Road exit and tried to take 54, which worked for about a mile then became equally bad. Trying to get to 15-501 so I detoured up NC 55 and promptly got rear-ended. (Thankfully the car was still drivable afterwards) Ended up taking me almost 2 hours for a trip that should have taken 30 minutes.

I hate rain.

I had hit 40 East just as the first rainstorm started at about 3:30pm. It would have been fine since most people had slowed down to an acceptable speed and kept driving, but then you'd have the occasional dipshit who would either basically stop in the middle of the highway or would be flying down the road going 70 and swerving to avoid people. I'm guessing it was one of those two that caused the pileup yesterday.

I saw the traffic up ahead this morning when heading west on 40 (fucking rubbernecker delays). Was able to get off at the exit for 54 then hop over to Harrison and get back on I-40 just past the wreck

Yeah I think the wreck must have happened the same time I got on 40. When I got to Wade I thought it was the usual unexplained morning slowdown between Wade and Harrison but then I quickly realized that was not the case

Looks like a truck slammed into a car while trying to change lanes. The driver's side of the car was obliterated. I really have no idea how the driver could have survived. The truck flew up onto the guardrail and was suspended in the median. Ended up getting to work late even though I left early today
