I basically posted the same thing a couple days ago in the NC State Football 2012 thread. Unbelievable the luck State has with some of it's top talent. State is cursed...2/26/2013 1:24:37 PM |

I know. No other university ever has ever had a player that is more concerned about their stats than the team. It's an NC State phenomenon. 2/26/2013 1:28:33 PM |

^^ All right give me multiple examples from one other college that routinely has players with star talent that quit on their teams as frequently as NC State. I'll rattle off a few here just from State:
Damien Wilkins Brandon Costner TA McClendon David Amerson CJ Leslie Derek Morris
You could argue guys like Hickson and Josh Powell although I think both gave good effort, but neither was playing for the team.

I don't know, because I don't follow other teams nearly as closely as I follow nc state, but I bet you can find fans from other schools who share your type of mindset who could rattle off names.
While NC State has had some shitty luck through the years, we're not actually "cursed".
He had one shitty game. In the 7 games previous to unc, he had 5 double-doubles, and was 4 rebounds away from 7 double-doubles. So I think that's quite a hyperbole to declare that he's quit on the team.

^ Obviously, but it feels that way. Outside of Hodge, it seems like every super recruit we get fizzles out in some fashion. Thankfully LoBo is seemingly fulfilling his promise so maybe Gott can change some of this luck. I guess it is really all on the coaches and injuries, but it'd be nice if even a third of our big recruits lived up to the hype. 2/26/2013 4:51:33 PM |

I think we have just been so bad to mediocre for so long that any big recruit that actually comes here comes in with the mindset that they are going to change the program. When they realize that they can't do it by themselves, they shift to a me first mindset. 2/26/2013 5:50:51 PM |

^ it's sickening everytime I read that.
Just imagine the different paths our programs would have taken if Jordan ended up at state. If the technology ever exists for time travel, that's priority motherfucking #1. 2/27/2013 1:30:45 AM |

You can not possibly argue that most universities struggle the way we do with elite talent.
Just look at that list of names of flame outs of guys who were supposed to be nasty.
You realize CJ leslie was in consideration for player of the year and now realistically shouldnt be even a 3rd team ALL ACC player, right?
Amerson was rated the #2 overall player in the NFL draft by some outlets preseason and went on to have a NIGHTMARE season. Like a total catastrophe. Remember Miami when he gave up like 5 TD's single handedly?! 2/27/2013 3:03:46 AM |

Bears beat writer Dan Pompei surveyed numerous NFL front office members and came away with the conclusion that 13 CBs could go in the top two rounds. The 13 include: Southeast Louisiana's Robert Alford, Cal's Marc Anthony, Mississippi State's Johnthan Banks, Utah State's Will Davis, Connecticut's Dwayne Gratz, Alabama's Dee Milliner, Oregon State's Jordan Poyer, Florida State's Xavier Rhodes, Rutgers' Logan Ryan, Mississippi State's Darius Slay, Boise State's Jamar Taylor and Washington's Desmond Trufant and Connecticut's Blidi Wreh-Wilson. damien wilkins didn't quit. his dumbass family talked shit and made an impossible situation that sendek resolved by pulling his scholarship.
mcclendon had zero work ethic/drive to succeed. all he wanted to do was smoke weed and fuck bitches.

Being a good cb in the nfl is as much about playing in the right scheme as it is about talent. See Revis in Tampa Bayamong many examples. 12/17/2015 11:08:57 AM |

perhaps in addition to scheme, he spent some time working on his skills? 12/17/2015 3:10:04 PM |

^ I can't imagine "working on his skills" made him go from being a horrible corner in the first few games of the year for the Redskins...to immediately being an above average corner for the Raiders. This change happened during the season...not offseason.
I think it might be a combination of changing schemes and him realizing that he actually had to get his mind into the game or he'd be out of the fucking league. 12/17/2015 3:22:42 PM |
