I know that blackface is racist when there is a certain stigma or stereotype behind the context but how else is a little white kid supposed to portray a prominent black leader without make-up? It is an honor for that little kid, not a chance to make fun of MLKJr.

We need a round table discussion about race in this country and talk about racial discrimination. Racial sensitivity is getting out of hand.

One of the major issues is that some people have clouded the issue of racism. By constantly droning on about this being racist and that being racist, they've effectively diluted the impacts of racism on others and changed the meaning of racism to others. There is now a large portion of the population who refuse to see racism, who laugh at it, who don't take it seriously, etc. because the meaning has been diluted, down to even portraying someone of color now being racist. It's helped to hide real racism in this country; sure when the media finally decides to pick up a story, we're all up in arms over it. But real racism is being crowded out. Unequal wages, murders, jim crow laws still in effect are all being pushed aside so that white 7 year-olds portraying historical figures of color can be demonized as racists villains. And lest we forget, these same people have turned racism into a one way street. They've polluted the meaning. They've made it even more difficult to work through racial differences. They perpetuate their new meaning of racism to gain them money, power, and fame by constantly trying to steal the headlines for any adverse issue with more than one race involved.

NumbWall needs to go lecture this kid on his insensitivity and make him aware of just how racist he is.

How many times have I said in this thread that I don't think the kid is to blame whatsoever here.

IT'S HIS PARENT'S RESPONSIBILITY TO KNOW THEY SHOULDN'T SEND THEIR KID TO SCHOOL IN BLACKFACE (or, to cater to the language preferred by people in this thread WITH HIS FACE PAINTED BLACK).

The real shame here is that kids on both sides of this are subjugated to a history they had no part in and no way of truly understanding. This will probably mark the point in their lives at which many will feel forced to take a side rather than being allowed to continue to grow and learn from one another.

I would like to think that at some point people will just give up and write the antagonists on both sides off as not being worth their time. We'll just let them scream until their face is blue; all the while carrying on with more productive lives. If or when that happens you'll see actual progress.

I think it will get far worse before it gets better though. Economic stresses have everyone looking for a scapegoat. It's far easier to blame those below you for leaching and blame those above you for holding you back than it is to actually make something of yourself, but I think these feelings are amplified in an economy such as the current where many people find themselves struggling in ways that they never foresaw.
