came down with lyme on 5/20.
i felt like absolute shit for four days; no appetite, ZERO energies, dizzy, nausea, cold/hot sweats -puddles of sweat in the middle of the night- fevered, aching muscles. went to the doctor after finding a bullseye on my buttock and got put on 21 days of doxycyclene. DO NOT take the tick lightly, MESS YOU UP! 6/4/2012 10:43:02 PM

You know you can just cut them in half with a knife or key and a hard surface, right? They're impervious to squishing by hand, but two hard objects will easily take care of them.

My GF pulled one off of my back last weekend.
Found this one crawling across the kitchen floor a couple days ago. Must have gotten full and fallen off of one of the dogs:

Yeah, I definitely live in the country. We battle them every year. Usually we just find them on the dogs because they are outside all day, but we sometimes find them on each other. Frontline helps some for the dogs, but it's not perfect.
I actually pulled one off of my dog in January, which was unexpected to say the least 5/13/2013 11:03:27 AM

I've pulled about 5 or so off me in the last week, and none have latched on yet
I'm more worried about chiggers right now- we had them bad outside at work last week, and I just noticed some on our back deck yesterday. little fuckers

I have had more ticks on me this year than I have had in a long time. We are along the Cape Fear river, and every time I go into the low-lands (flood plain of the river-40 ft lower than everywhere else) I get covered. My dogs hunt down there a lot and have been getting a lot of ticks, also. I don't know why, but I have one dog who has not had a tick in 2 years, but others get covered. 5/18/2013 8:55:23 PM

I have never had a tick on me (to my knowledge) and have had conflicting reports about the appropriate removal technique.
What is the general consensus (I'd like to be prepared in case my worst fears are realized)? 5/21/2014 3:16:05 PM

I got them all the time as a kid playing in the woods...yet have avoided them as a grown-up and I still do my share of outdoorsy shit.
We use Trifexis on our dog and he'll get covered in ticks...but they either die falling off or attached. He's never had one get even 1/4 full. Good shit. 6/15/2014 10:45:59 AM

Welp, Grandma just got diagnosed with lime disease from a tick. She is 89 and still works in the garden. Last year she got into a yellow jacket nest, she is one tough lady.
Fayettville is bad for ticks this year, found one in my bed (caught a ride on the dog). 6/15/2014 7:16:24 PM

Get tweezers. Clamp into the head capsule, which might take some digging to get to depending on how long it's been latched. Quickly pull out and downward as to not dislodge the head. Then kill it with fire or flush it.
Clean the area with alcohol.
( when there are no accessible tweezers you can pinch you're nails into as close as you can get to the head, but this method has a higher risk of breaking of the head and leaving it buried in your skin for a little bit longer)

where the hell are you guys going. do you all live in a more rural area? I haven't gotten one since i was 10 or 11. I still go for hikes through Umstead and the occasional camping trip come summer time but i haven't experienced 1 or 2 tics per year, let alone 5 - 10. 6/16/2014 9:04:25 PM
