There are shitty chains, and good chains. They're not all horrible. Please don't be that guy.

It's right there in my quote that I don't think all chains are shitty by virtue of simply being chains.

But you just happen to not be able to think of any non-shitty chains.

ok.

Because I'm not trying to think of any, and because I really don't care. Those restaraunts aren't shitty because they are chains necessarily. And if you just want to play the game, I think Bocci opened another place in Cary which technically makes it a chain. So there you go, guy.

Two locations don't constitute a chain, but nice effort all the same, guy.

wikipedia agrees with me

"A restaurant chain is a set of related restaurants with the same name in many different locations that are either under shared corporate ownership (e.g., Burger Kings in the U.S.) or franchising agreements"

i figured your post was sarcastic when i first read it, but then i saw other(s) post it too.

Sitti's yummy. I can't really think of any "classy" or nice restaurants in Raleigh. At least uptown. Everything is just casual and not horribly expensive.

The Mint is closed forever. It's being replaced by an actual restaurant.

I typically steer clear of chains. Not necessarily because they're all bad (some are good) but because they're not unique. If I'm visiting someone or taking someone out I don't want to go somewhere we could go to in any city in the country.

Now don't get me wrong I'll got to BLT or Capital Grill any day (both are chains) but wouldn't take someone there if they were visiting from out of town.

I never understood why Ruth's Chris serves their steaks on a burning hot plate. Doesn't that overcook your perfectly rare steak?

That it does. And the steaks aren't even that good to begin with. Instead of that chain I'd go to a different chain: Sullivans.

5 Star, in downtown Raleigh. Asian style food

Definitely classy, and it wont break the bank. I recommend the 5 Star Chicken (the best General Chicken you will ever eat, guaranteed).

people love the "sizzle" factor i suppose.

it also prevents a proper resting for the meat... people dig in right when it shows up.

Take a look at the restaurants participating in restaurant week. I'd say at least half of them are classy enough to visit with a lady friend.

Went to Nofo tonight. Not classy, but the food (had shrimp and grits as well as their BBQ) was damn good.

The one thing about Raleigh is that a lot of the restaurants with fancy food are still not "classy" places, because Raleigh is not a very formal town.

It's similar to the way Jaybee complains that Raleigh is a bar town, not a club town. Clubs are too fancy for us rednecks.

I agree with that

Like I'm always so shocked to see how people dress when they go to the theatre around here...always makes me sad

Sullivan's is good except when you're ordering your pre-meal salad and they're like "what kind of dressing do you want on your salad" and you're like "Ranch please" and they're like "oh I'm sorry, we don't have Ranch"

might seem like a petty complaint since all their other food is good, but wtf kind of restaurant doesn't offer ranch salad dressing
