i wish they would end this new series of movies and/or start another series set after DS9/voyager in the "real" universe.

and by new series, i mean TV series. These new films (and the others to some extent) are all focused on action and no character building, problem solving, or morality debate which made the TV series great.

yeah even in this new timeline, we have to assume that v'ger and the whale probe are still going to show up on schedule, plus someone should just go ahead and throw some red matter at the Hobus star

and most importantly, MSHA needs to get some mining inspectors to Praxis pronto

you people want the events of the original 6 movies to happen... these things all happened decades from the "current" time in the new film series.

by biggest issue with all of this time travel bullshit in startrek (film and series) is that they are all conveniently set on jumping back or forward within a few hundred years or less... that seems so marginally small when time itself is infinitely large in billions of years.

Unless I can't recall anything that references a larger leap in time travel within the ST universe?

Q doesn't really count. I'm thinking man-made or natural events that result in time travel excursions.

On Enterprise, there was a time traveling guy from the future that took Archer about a thousand years in the future if I remember correctly. In the TNG ep Time's Arrow I believe they went back to the 19th century. There's lots of leaping through time in all series actually, but not more than a thousand years or so if you are excluding the Q example above.

^ not man made, but time travel happens a lot.

I'd like to see more mirror universe eps, but I doubt they could make a movie out of it. I believe they did a comic series modeled after the new timeline with the mirror universe though.

although i guess considering things like the super nifty budweiser-powered warp drive and the chekov's transporter skills (?!) combined with scotty's ridiculously overpowered transporter, running up on the botany bay a little bit sooner wouldn't be a huge stretch of the imagination.

:spits out drink at spoiler:

they use Khan? like the Wrath of khan? Why?

this Star trek is in an alternate timeline where they MAKE UP any ideas that comes off the top of their heads and they decided to rehash an idea? unreal. next they will be using singing whales somehow.

I was going to skip it, now I must see.

Went in to the screening last night with no expectation, other than a friend who saw it at a screening last weekend who told me it was great...

It was really, really good. Not a huge trekker/trekkie, so anyone can enjoy it. Definitely recommend to anyone.

Excited to see what JJ is going to do as he moves on to the Star Wars universe. Though a bit disappointed he won't be doing a 3rd Star Trek(as far as directing, still producing).

That's what they do these days. Star Wars? Just take the most liked characters and find ways to shoehorn them into the new movies, also lets just recreate various scenes almost shot for shot and call them "echos." Tron? Let's just rehash all the ideas from the first one, light cycles, discs, except with better graphics this time.

Glad to hear some positive reviews on this one. This is the first movie I've wanted to see in a long time.

Great movie! Lots of fun, good action, good story, some funny parts and some serious parts. I liked how they flipped Spock and Kirk's perspective from the Wrath of Khan. The only thing I didn't like was the way the Klingon looked, I thought they tried way too hard to make him look menacing and it came off just looking like someone with too much makeup on.

Sidenote: On the part when Kirk was in Admiral Marcus' office it shows various aircraft/spacecraft developed in human history. It started with the Wright Brothers' plane and panned over. One of the vehicles it showed was the SLS vehicle that is currently in the design phase at NASA. I'm glad they included that small detail .
