The new sheetz that opened up in Graham last week is 2.97 for regular right now. It's only about a mile south of I40/85 exit for NC87.

2.8something here in Greenville, SC yesterday. For the past year or so we've been able to curb our driving to where we only fill up 2x a month between both my wife and I for our normal driving though. In other words, I don't pay much attention to the price.

I think gas was around $1.25 when I started driving. I miss driving around for the sake of exploring new areas.

It dipped into the $0.85 cent range for me when I was in high school

Filled up yesterday for $3.42/gallon at one of the cheaper stations off South Saunders. Now that a barrel of oil is down to $78 my fingers are crossed for it dipping well down into the 2's.

I remember when gas was around $0.80 as well, and I remember bitching when it was $0.90 and then $1. Cost me $10-$12 to fill up my maxima. Those were the days.

Gas was only $3.12 in Wilmington this weekend. Hoping that means Raleigh won't be far behind.

I remember those days fondly. $10 would get me about 3/4 of a tank. Nowadays $10 doesn't even get you a quarter, and that's on a car with a 5 gallon smaller tank.

I'll be happy if gas ever goes back under $3/gallon and stays there for any appreciable amount of time. It does seem kind of funny that a few years ago (2008 or 2009?) folks were all up in arms when it went over $4/gallon briefly. Now, anything below $3.50 seems "good" by comparision.

[Edited on June 25, 2012 at 9:25 AM. Reason : ^Paid something like $3.36 on Saturday. Closest gas station being near the interstate FTL.]

Gas prices have been going up steadily for the past month, it's about time to start complaining again.

Also, regardless of what happens with Hurricane Isaac I'm sure gas companies are pleased to have an excuse to price gouge even more.

i can't imagine who you're talking to, since i don't have a liquor cycle

and it matters not if anyone is jealous...when i get at least 3x the fuel economy (city mileage) of your average 4-banger, it makes little difference to me whether gas is $3, $4, or $5/gallon

Let me know how great that thing is when you get run over or how it rides in the cold inclement weather.

Dear God no! I can't handle the mass stupidity that surrounds major elections.

Also, still hovering around 3.85 here. I'm so tired of the 10-15 cent markup for credit. I never have cash

i've been hit twice (and was physically okay each time...just some damage to the scootscoot)...don't get me wrong, it's downright scary when folks aren't paying attention and you realize that their mistake could kill you much more easily than if i were in a tank

but your argument is retarded, as i'm sure you're aware...because in a thread discussing gas prices, fuel economy is the most relevant comparison (within reason...if you NEED a truck for your job, for example, saying that a scooter is "better" is silly)...but since many people ride alone in their sedans, it's a perfectly valid comparison to make

as for the cold weather, i've ridden my scooter year-round (including crazy cold days in the winter) since i got my first one in 2008...my newest one is fuel injected, so it does a lot better in the cold than did my carbureted scoot (also, i'm not a pussy)

what's your scooter top out at? I don't understand these scooters that I encounter in south Raleigh that can barely go 35 mph.

I think that's a legally mandated top speed for scooters that can legally be operated without a driver's license. The rest of them are technically treated like motorcycles (and I can't really understand why you wouldn't just buy a motorcycle instead).

Yeah I thought you could get one without a license up to a certain engine size (50 cc?). Perfect for people with multiple DUI convictions

mine tops out at around 67-68 if i'm going downhill, 64-65 on level ground, around 60 up a steep hill

Quote :
"I think that's a legally mandated top speed for scooters that can legally be operated without a driver's license."

yeah, the engine has to be LESS than 50cc and you can't go faster than 30mph (or so i was told by a cop)...and yeah, you don't need a license (of any kind), insurance, or tags (hence the "liquor cycle" references)

Quote :
"The rest of them are technically treated like motorcycles (and I can't really understand why you wouldn't just buy a motorcycle instead)."

i used to have a '82 nighthawk 650 and got rid of it when i realized i had no use for something that big...i simply didn't/don't have time to go ride for fun, had no need to ride on the interstate, and getting crappy mileage in the city just so i can have a "real" motorcycle wasn't worth it

i got a 50cc scooter after that and got frustrated by the limitation...i found a good deal on a rebel 250 and tripleD4u re-bored the scooter for 60cc at the same time...i found the rebel to be too small and unimpressive (both in performance and fuel economy) and i still wanted to go faster than the 60cc big-bore scooter

so i sold both of those and imported the one i have now, which is a 110cc fuel-injected honda...i've never gotten less than 94mpg and frequently top 100mpg (it gets spectacular stop-and-go fuel economy and the all-out economy is comparatively meh, but still in the mid-90s)

also, fwiw, i drove the scooter for more than 2 years without tags or insurance (or a US title for that matter), so i "saved" on that...i did get the US title, insurance, and tags this past spring, though

i keep track of my fuel economy and over my 4-cyl saturn, i've saved more than $1000 in gas since i got the scooter...and it was only around $1600 in the first place

i can't think of a single reason for ME to get a motorcycle...there's simply nothing but disadvantages in it

I can definitely see it making sense if you live less than 10 miles from work and don't need to take the interstate to get there. Unfortunately I am neither of those.

and this is me...i COULD take the interstate, but it wouldn't make my commute any faster

i'd ride my scooter if i were more than 10 miles from work...i'm not sure what my limit is, though, as i'm sure that it would get uncomfortable after a certain amount of time (and depending on the road quality)

the longest i've ever ridden it at one time is around 40 minutes...i wasn't uncomfortable

I'd be ok with that as long as the reason isn't a near catastrophic recession like it was before the 2008 election.

^As far as scooters go that one is pretty nice.

Closer to election time now and the prices are around $0.40/gal higher than when that was written. If they raise them after the election we'll see over $4/gallon for regular for only the second time that I can remember (in this part of the country anyway).

gas was cheaper in NY when i went like 3 weeks ago.

Actually it was cheaper everywhere north of here, although i think it was basically the same. Either way $3 somethin to go 30 miles or so is totally worth it. Either way ride your high horse or get off it.

Either way I'm Krallum and I approved this message.

We should change the term length for president to one year. Lower gas prices and feel good stories about the economy every year.
