"Saw an interesting article a while back on shit like this. Essentially saying these "slammer" type publications screw people over by creating a digital footprint for people that isn't so easy to erase....even after the public record with the police department and court is erased/destroyed when people are either found not guilty, the offender serves their time, or the case is otherwise disposed of."

On the flip side...When some guy my girlfriend hired to do landscaping work started acting like a creeper (coming by unannounced, asking her on dates, leaving notes on her door when she's not there, etc.) I was thankful it was so easy to pull his pic up on "Busted Mugshots" to ask her if that was him. The NC Offender database does not include pics of people who are not currently incarcerated. He had quite a record; mostly thefts, but also a couple charges for assault on a female within the past decade.

Sure...Girls with the internet will Google his name and discriminate against him for the rest of his life. I'm fine with that.

But yeah, it's kind of weird when you Google your coworkers and see their DWI pics from 5 years ago.

^^^^ valid point. Though I would personally like to see matters of public safety and awareness handled at a government level, and not by the hands of a private, for-profit, publisher.

Also, if the court has given someone a clean slate by erasing their past, who am I to hold their record against them? Maybe the answer is the court should hold on to documents longer?

Being put on blast for FTA on a misdemeanor is harsh as hell. You can't provide me with enough excuses/examples to change my opinion.

I got arrested for a FTA in 2009 because the court didn't file my paper work correctly from the 9096 program for a possession of a malt beverage ticket in 2003.

I have a friend who was charged with armed robbery because his brother used his car.

Dismissed... but charged would be enough to get him on one of these sites...

Sorta does away with innocent until proven guilty doesn't it?

everyone who hasen't been involved with it likes to think about it like most people would super models. You think yeah it's great, it's perfect, it never fails because it keeps you feeling warm and fuzzy.

But you never think that bitch may be so skinny because she has IBS and shits the bed from time to time.

Uhm. . .how about you just not get arrested in the first place?

I'm thirty years old, I've never been arrested and the only ticket I've ever gotten was for an expired tag. What do you people get up to that you get arrested?

couple years ago I got pulled for a burnt out tail light. cop ran my license and found a warrant for a FTA on a noise ordinance violation in 2003 that had been taken care of in 2004. I even told him the exact date it was taken care of and he said he could see something being processed on that date but couldnt tell specifically what it was. Told him I'd been stopped by cops since the NOV violation and nobody had said anything about it. He said that regardless since there was a warrant out he HAD to arrest me. I could tell he felt kind of bad. anyway get arrested and all that good stuff and come back to the court the next day to talk to the clerk of courts. the lady was all "what the hell, this was resolved years ago" she printed out a piece of paper for me to keep in the car certifying that shit.

at leats you guys were nice enough to not put me on blast like this

I'd say ~2% of the population gets arrested at some point in thier life for no reason at all.

You got lucky.

I partied when I was a younger lad and broke laws that I still to this day think are asinine. underage possession of alcohol by a 19 yr old at a tailgate? possession of small amounts of marijuana? I'm happy to hear you have lead a squeaky clean life, but my "crimes" were victimless (don't start with the horrors of the drug trade blah blah blah because that could be changed with legalization and regulation).

my fiance was pulled at a DUI checkpoint for expired registration (by a month, oops ) and got a ticket that the officer said could be easily paid for in the mail and he would not have to show up to court.

so he mailed in the payment.... few weeks later they tell him it is mandatory that he shows up. Even though the ticket said it was not necessary as long as he paid it. We tried bringing this to their attention, but seriously they don't care.

so the court date was 3 days after xmas, which would mess up our travel plans to see our family. So we cut our trip short, got back, showed up to court... only to find that they were not going to have time that day to see his case that day sooooo they give him a 'new' court date.

apparently his appearance was not documented, despite 'checking in' with the clerk and rescheduling a date.

anyway ... fast forward 1 month (a few weeks before the rescheduled date) at 7am bright and early for all the neighbors to watch, this cop pounds on our door, (we have no peephole and the cop car was parked around the corner) so I was nervouse and brought my dog to the door. handcuffed him (gave him bruises) for 'failure to appear' for the 12/28 date. the cop also told me he would not hesitate to shoot my dog.

we told this story to the DA and judge.... they did not care, he still had to pay and told him not to make up lies.

it definitely happens.

It's not that I've led a squeaky clean life, it's just that I believe in being discrete. Drinking underage or dropping X at a party loud enough to piss off the neighbors is just asking for it. So is driving a car with expired tags with your weed in your pocket. I just think that there is no reason that your average person with two brain cells to rub together should ever be arrested.

^Uh. Your boyfriend shouldn't have even paid the ticket. All you have to do is take care of registering your car and show up whenever at the courthouse to get it taken care of. No court date. No fine. No problem. That's the only ticket I've ever gotten and it was easily taken care of.

wrongful convictions, wrongful arrests, those never happen. Just keep your head down, and they've got no reason to suspect you for anything, right?

Sorry, but my step dad was a Sheriff's Deputy and then a US Marshall until he retired. I grew up around law enforcement and I have zero problem with them. I just think that if you're smart, take care of yourself, and take care of your shit, you shouldn't ever have to take a trip downtown.

I mean, this isn't/wasn't a cop hatred issue as far as I can see.

I think most peole are just saying 1. It is possible to be arrested without doing anything illegal, and 2. an arrest does not equal a conviction (

Klaty, It has nothing to do with having "important" family members. It's common knowledge that if you're pulled for tags/registration/inspection that all you have to do is correct the problem and show them that you've rectified the problem. In Wake County, you don't even have to wait until your court date. You just wait in line to see the DA/ADA and show them your stuff and it's dismissed.

he fixed it, he still had to pay court fees, and he got arrested for nothing. He tried to fix it by mailing in the payment and mailing in a copy of his new registration. I am beyond pissed that he is 'on file' for a fucking minor traffic infraction.

and they acted like they didn't do anything wrong.

i got a speeding ticket. went to court and got the DA to knock it down to 9 mph over because this shithole county doesn't let you talk to a DA before your court date. waited over 5 hours and listened to a bunch of trash argue about child support and who fucked who just so i could say "responsible" and get a slip of paper telling me how much to pay the cashier. went and paid the cashier. few weeks later i get a letter saying if i didn't pay in however many days my license would be revoked. thankfully i kept my receipt, but i still had to take more time off work just to go down there and show them it was paid. cashier said she showed it paid, told me to go talk to criminal dept. lady there said "oh, sorry, you slipped through the cracks". WTF? CRACKS? all that kept me from having my license revoked was a little fucking letter delivered by our piece of shit postal service.

we are so fucked.

I didn't say the system is perfect. I just said that your average thinking person who keeps their shit together shouldn't ever be arrested. And we keep neglecting the fact that most were at fault in some way that got the entire ball rolling, even the minister's wife with the unpaid parking tickets. Here's an idea, pay your tickets on time. Better yet, park where you're supposed to.
