What is the maximum over the speed limit will you let someone get away with before the blue lights come on? What if you're following them? Often times if a cop is behind me I'll go dead on the speed limit and I get tail the fuck gated like crazy! What's the deal?

If I have a problem with trespassers (yes, there are signs), can I legally booby trap? Nothing intended to cause bodily harm, but something like a spike strip, intended to flatten a tire. So that they'll have to stay put long enough for a deputy to arrive.

Nothing yet except for the changes in the law. The state is pretty slow when it comes to getting current/timely training topics. We will probably have to sit through a course on it in about two years when its not a problem.

Only during certain times can cash be seized if you can tie it to narcotics sales. But for OpSec we won't get into that.

If they do have some money that isn't a seizable amount, the USUB Agent comes and gets it. That's the state tax program on unauthorized substances and yes they have sworn agents who enforce the tax.

I've heard a rumor to the effect that, once a cop pulls you, they have to write you up for something (because otherwise someone reviewing the camera will ask why you didn't write them up). Seems far-fetched to me but thought I'd ask.

I've also wondered about the big DUI checkpoints you see every so often. Does that actually net many drunk drivers or is it mostly for show?

Who knows? I'm not a cop hater, but after dealing with so many of them over the past few years...I get awfully frustrated with most of them. It's refreshing when you run into an all-around good one.

I could be wrong, but the really sharp ones go into higher levels (FBI), law school, or become detectives or heads of the departments. Those salaries can get pretty high as well as the benefits.

I don't speak for every cop. But the one I dated used it as a stepping stone for something bigger, like federal marshal. He didn't hate patrolling, but he also didn't love it either. I mean would you? Driving around in the patrol car for 8 hours or longer if you have to write up a official report the rest of your life?

He has a pretty sweet schedule though. Every month he would alternate he would alternate day
( 7-3pm or 3pm to 11 pm) and would have 2-4 days off at a time.

It's amazing the stereotypes about cops though. Esp when my friends found out I was dating one. One of my co-workers was like, " Whaat are you doing with a cop, they beat their wives."

He said it in a joking tone, I really believe that's what he thinks all cops do.

Negative, but people have filed complaints on officers for not stopping people before. Sorry, sometimes we have bigger things to handle than a person making right hand turn red where prohibited.

Yup and not that I recall. You become desensitized real quick. Of all the murders and car wrecks that I have been to, its seeing old people that have passed that freaks me out. Only nightmares that I have had are the typical cops stuff - gun won't go off, etc.

Not really sure. I'm kinda at a crossroads in my career. Would love to keep going if the right opportunity came along to move to a different unit or even jump ship to a more professional agency @ the fed level (but that is a long shot w/ current budgets). I would also consider the right private sector job as well even if it wasn't remotely related to this.
