Down South if you act up on the bus you get kicked off and have to find your own way to school, they probably have some dumbass rule against kicking kids off the bus up there.

If these kids parents wont beat them for behaving like that they will for sure beat them when they have to start providing transportation for them. Also, if the school district does not stop her from being abused like this at work they are wide open to a legal action.

Because they're all individual donations under the cut off, right? What is it, gifts <$13k aren't taxed?

So this won't be like an inheritance tax?

Which is dumb...why tax money that has already been taxed?

If I give you >$13k, I have to pay a gift tax on that amount (ignoring lifetime credits), you pay nothing.

If she has never complained about this I do not feel sorry for her.

There were never any bus monitors on my bus growing up, but the drivers would keep the fear of death in you.

what's kind of fucked up is that there are 4 life saving/altering funds on there that have collectively earned less than <$10k...meanwhile this old lady gets $175k and counting. Found the other links as funds that bus monitor's organizer has contributed to

Guess people have a bigger soft spot for bullied people than medical hardship

Statement from the middle school's website:

Quote :
"District Statement Regarding YouTube Video

This morning we were made aware of a troubling video that was posted to YouTube depicting students ridiculing a bus monitor. We were able to confirm that the woman in the video is a Greece Central School District employee. We immediately activated our district bullying and violence prevention response team to investigate and contacted the Greece Police Department to conduct their own investigation.

We have discovered other similar videos on YouTube and are working to identify all of the students involved. Links to the YouTube posts were also forwarded to members of the media, some of whom have reported inaccurate and concerning information including names and addresses of students alleged to be involved in the incidents. The bus involved in this incident was carrying middle school students – all of whom are juveniles. Although their behavior was inexcusable, we also have concern for the safety of all involved. We urge patience to allow us to investigate and determine the appropriate discipline.

Currently, our district security staff and Greece Police are interviewing all of those involved. The Greece Police Department has assigned an investigator to partner with us. The Greece Central School District is committed to providing students and staff with a safe environment that respects the dignity of all. We do not tolerate harassment of staff or students.

While we cannot comment on specific student discipline, we can say that students found to be involved will face strong disciplinary action. We will continue our ongoing bullying prevention and awareness training to ensure that incidents like this do not occur in the future. Specifically, the Greece Central School District has recently adopted the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program, a systemic approach involving all community stakeholders to reduce bullying and other anti-social behaviors.

The Greece Central School District has a clear Code of Conduct and all staff and students have been fully trained. This behavior is a clear violation and will not be tolerated. The district will also ensure that reporting procedures are reviewed and response procedures are systemically in place."

I immediately pictured a SWAT team response.

I think ThePeter's point is well made. I feel really bad for this woman, and those kids are little shits, but this money could do a lot of good elsewhere.

Internet vigilantes raise a lot of money. Someone needs to figure out how to harness it for things other than The Oatmeal and vacations for bully victims.

I'm not saying it's a scheme, or it's misguided at all. I like the idea of giving a little extra to this woman. I just wish people voluntarily gave more in general, and that internet mobs could be harnessed in a predictable way to change all sorts of lives. If that makes any sense. (and I mean internet mobs in a nice way in this instance).

I think she's making so much money because she's got two pools of donors: 1) charitable people who want to make her life a little bit easier, and 2) angry people who want to send a big FU to those punks and this is the best way to do it.

$180k+ so far...she's gonna be on Anderson Cooper tonight...at this rate (plus the AC bump), I think she might hit a million dollars by the end of the day.

in that case, everyone's premie membership $ for tww could've been better spent

seriously, i can always count on tww to find the worst in anything

others like me probably donate to other causes as well that they feel are important.

seriously, idk if anyone has grounds to complain about how other people spend their money unless the person spending the $ is being supported by the complainer

You guys are missing my point. I'm not detracting from those donations. I think they're great. I've said that a few times already. I ONLY wish that people gave for other things too, things that aren't youtube sensations or popular websites.

It'd be nice if they gave $5 to the Oatmeal, and $5 to the guy who needs help paying for his cancer treatment, even though he doesn't have a lot of internet popularity.

I'm not pissing on this idea at all. Just wishing there were a way to bring this kind of notoriety for other small issues too. So, get the power of the internet behind a little kid who wants to go to Disney World before he dies.

That's my whole point! I wish they did. I love a feel good story, and I love seeing thousands of people coming together and restoring my faith in humanity by getting behind something like this. I wish it happened more often.

And no, I'm not having a bad morning. Thank you for asking.

people are more likely to donate to something that has a story, it is not surprising people don't want to just give money to something they have no emotions vested in.. I am all for people donating more money to worthier causes, but there is a reason why these youtube sensations get all the attention.

Apparently one of the parents was on GMA this morning

Quote :
"The father of one of the teenage boys who was involved in the bullying says his "heart broke" to see that his son was part of the abuse, but that the boys have suffered enough with their faces made public in the video.

"My family's received death threats," Robert Helms told ABC News. "He's a 13-year-old kid. It was a stupid mistake and he's paying for it but I just think it's a little out of control.""

See, I don't feel as if death threats (if true what the dad says) should be part of the discipline for a middle schooler. That's the kind of thing that fucks up someone's life.

Absolutely. I have to eat paleo because with all the meds I'm on it messes up my stomach so bad, but my insurance won't pay for the injections (or pills, but the pills are $60 a month vs. $800 so I can afford that). My parents are always giving money to dumb shit at their church so I asked them about it and they told me to fuck off.
