Not a great trade. This is not like having one sedin twin and trading for the other.
I like sutter better than staal and you guys traded sutter and a 1st and Dumoulin for him.

As a Pens fan, I'm pretty satisfied with this trade after the initial shock. It obviously hurts to lose Staal, especially on the penalty kill, but Sutter immediately fills the void Staal left. Jordan wanted more minutes and more offensive responsibility. Can't say that I blame him, he was never going to get that behind Crosby and Malkin. I also don't know why I've seen people penciling him in on a line with Eric. If anything, I would think that Jordan centers the second line. I like Jordan, and I like the Canes, so I hope the trade works out for everyone.
Add in the fact that the Penguins traded away Michalek yesterday too and now they've got cap space to go after some bigger names in free agency. 6/23/2012 4:35:17 PM |

I don't think that's really true. As much as we all hated Mo, let's face it; Laviolette, Maurice and Muller all have a mancrush on Chad. He got significant top 6 time under all of them. That shouldn't be the case this season though if we add another top 6 forward, except of course when there are injuries.6/25/2012 11:47:53 AM |

I don't remember Larose playing 1st line minutes under Lavi. Top 6 due to injuries, or needing to shake things, up, sure. But consistent top line? 6/25/2012 12:17:07 PM |
Vulcan91 All American 13893 Posts user info edit post |
At the end there Chad was getting a nice uptick in ice time from Lavi. It definitely saw a boost in the Mo 2.0 era, but Muller continued that, consistently playing LaRose on the top line in the second half of the season.
Ice time per game for Char LaRose:

Just for kicks in pre-season we need to throw Jared, Jordan, and Eric on a line together. Just to see if they can get a goal by Staal with assists by Staal and Staal

Not a big Chad fan myself but he had the 3rd most goals on the team this last season, behind only Staal and Skinner. He had 1 more than Ruutu in 5 less GP.
I mean it's tough to call these things seeing as increased minutes on top line is obviously going to yield more goals, so it's not like he was completely useless. I wouldn't mind keeping him around if we were paying him something less than $1.7 million. 6/25/2012 8:51:50 PM |

I think LaRose is on a pretty nice contract given what he brings to the table. Never really understood the hate for the guy. Obviously he shouldn't be near the top line or probably top 6 on a good team, but that anger should be directed at the GM and coach, not the player. 6/25/2012 9:45:01 PM |

I've long been a Chad hater, and most of the time it was because the guy can't finish. I can't count the number of point blank misses he had on top of scoring chance after scoring chance wasted.
That being said, I shouldn't really dislike the guy. He brings it every shift, and that's why he gets top 6 minutes. In high school hockey, that's acceptable. In the NHL, shame on the coaches and GM for putting him in that situation.
Has anyone been hearing JRs interviews lately? He keeps talking about going after a D player not named Allen and Spacek, while also hoping to get both of them signed. He also keeps saying he wants another top O guy, but says that might not be possible. 6/28/2012 9:56:51 AM |

I really had high hopes for Boucher as a backup, but damn he's going down fast.
The shitty thing is that he also tweeted that JR won't buy out his contract, which would allow us to go out and sign a #2 that isn't Peters. The dude is gonna be 26 when the season starts and while he's shown some progression, I doubt he's ever going to be more than a mediocre backup.
EDIT: Didn't realize Peters was a UFA. Well that gives me some hope for a decent backup, but we still have the dead weight of Boucher's contract.

It seems as is Evgeni Dadonov has signed with KHL Donbass.
I'm sure we'll hold on to his rights -- hope he comes back, I liked what I saw of him as a Panther and had some hope he'd turn out to be a solid player for the Canes. 6/28/2012 5:56:03 PM |

I think the Canes knew about Dadanov doing that for a while. In my opinion the KHL is a legitimate place for guys to go so they can make real money and not have to stay in the AHL. I think it's good to have a "rival" league like that. 6/29/2012 10:00:02 AM |
