So I haven't been able to find all that much on google about it this, but how is the Google Play store vs Amazon when it comes to book prices/selection/convenience, and Google Books as a reading app compared to the Kindle app? My mom wants something for reading and I've been showing her info about the nexus 7 recently.I realize that you can get a kindle app (or whatever other app) on the nexus 7, but my mom is horribly tech averse (I had to write out instructions for my parents to be able to play DVDs) and I don't think she would take well to having multiple reader apps. I think it would be better if she could have a device where her books show up on the home screen. So if Amazon was better I'd probably just wait for them to release the next Fire.[Edited on July 10, 2012 at 12:38 AM. Reason : ]

I'm going to guess that Kindle has a slightly larger selection, but pricing and all is competitive. Pretty much anything at all popular will be on both apps.Seems like google is putting a ton of resources into improving that whole atmosphere though. I'd have no qualms with buying this device for my parents if I could afford to do so right now.

This morning - So I didn't pre-order but got super jealous earlier today when GameStop started txting people that pre-orders ready for pickup. Started investigating all over the area..GameStop, Staples, Office Depot...all no dice.1ish - Finally gave in and put in a pre-order at Office Depot (actually the wife did b/c she's more excited than I am - but whatever.3:30ish - Surfing around XDA forums and see a note that Sams Club apparently has stock. Call..yep, 5 in stock. Rush out of the office..get membership (total pain)..#PROFIT!Now the question...do I keep the Office Depot pre-order since the wife has already monopolized it. hmm.

7/13/2012 11:21:04 PM
I'm considering doing the same thingdo you get the Play store credit when you buy it from gamestop/sam's club/whatever?
7/14/2012 8:00:07 AM
I bought from Sam's club and did receive the credit. I think its just everyone who activates a device. PS I got the last one at same club and they said their next shipment wasn't coming in till around August
7/14/2012 10:51:07 AM

haha nah, its just because as long as the UPS box is still unopened I can refuse delivery up to 5 days after I get it. If I open the UPS box, even if I dont open the tabet itself, I cant refuse shipment and will have to pay google a 15% restocking fee to return it. Plus if I refuse it, I'll even get my shipping back.[Edited on July 16, 2012 at 12:33 PM. Reason : ]

Finally got the tablet in I ordered from GP, and sold it 15 min later for a $80 profit. The older man who bought it REALLY wanted one before he left for Europe on Friday for a month,[Edited on July 17, 2012 at 7:56 PM. Reason : ]

This is going to replace my laptop for a lot of my web browsing. It's going to replace my phone for a lot of my media. Gives me two goals: hack the phone to get wifi-hotspot for freeFigure out the best way to get streaming media from my laptop on my tablet.
7/17/2012 9:48:04 PM
this thread reminds me of when all the wolfwebbers were waiting on their touchpadsexcept we have 10" screens
7/17/2012 9:59:53 PM
I'd rather have one of these than those Touchpads.
7/17/2012 10:30:02 PM
This thing has 4 cores won't be dropped by the manufacturer any time soon. Much rather have it than the touchpad
7/17/2012 11:04:37 PM
Hey BigEgo. No need to hack your phone for WiFi. Easy solution if you have Bluetooth. All you do is connect your phone to the tablet via Bluetooth, and voila, your tablet automatically uses the phones internet. And Bluetooth doesn't drain your battery nearly as much as a hotspot.I have Verizon and had a few problems connecting (it would pair but not connect). There are two solutions. 1. Bluetooth tether through Verizon is only blocked on 4g LTE. Switch your radio over to 3g and it works automatically, no tricks or gimmicks. Just pair it up and then hit connect on your nexus 7. And since Verizon doesn't block it I can't imagine it being against the rules.2. Download an app like foxfi and you can Bluetooth tether on 4g. The app is free. The first time I used it it worked great. The next day it wouldn't connect. For what I do on the tablet on the go, 3G is sufficient.Plus no extra apps or feeling like Im doing something illegal.[Edited on July 17, 2012 at 11:52 PM. Reason : spelling]

Wonder if att would find out if I went some kind of Bluetooth route. I mean as soon as cm9/10 is official on my phone my bootloader will be gone anyway so I have no objections to the haxor route
7/18/2012 12:14:39 AM
I get that the only hardware advantages of the Touchpad are the larger screen, but if all you're using a tablet for is web browsing and watching movies, I don't think its gonna make much of a differenceIts not like you're gonna use the Nexus 7 for Adobe CS apps, and who would want to on a tablet regardless of the screen size
7/18/2012 1:18:57 AM
I doubt anyone is using it solely for browsing and if so the browsing experience alone is much more fluid than on the Touchpad. Not to mention the screen on the Nexxus 7 is higher resolution than on the Touchpad. More room for browsing.
7/18/2012 1:21:33 AM
more "room" on a smaller screenanyway, i'd love to get feedback from someone who has used both, and when I say Touchpad, I am implying one with dualboot WebOS / CM9
